Haha, mum just phoned after watching the finale and she couldn't stop gushing over Delena :D She was talking about how perfect they are together 'cos they're complete opposites, Elena brings the stability and grounding to a relationship that Damon needs/has never had whilst Damon brings out Elena's passion and the "fire in her belly". I'm not going to tell anyone what to think o believe about DE, but I will say that in the back of my mind I wanted Elena to choose Stefan now. If she had chosen Damon they could have gotten DE out of the way & had Elena go back to Stefan, but they aren't doing that. I know it's painful & angst-filled, but their journey is what makes them beautiful. Remember, Elena told Damon she couldn't think about "always" only "right now" in the finale. We've come a long way.
