Kind of serious question;

I MIGHT have found a place to get a book published; which is a huge goal of mine but I don't know what I should do.

Should I start with a shorter story and see how it goes o should I just focus on my main story that I've been working on for years?

I'm wanting to go with the short story; something I wouldn't miss too much if something went south. But at the same time putting time into that takes away time from escritura my main story. And I don't have much of that as it is. So that's why I was looking for some extra opinions.

If it were me personally, I'd want to go with something other than my main work first, like a novella o something. There's a lot of ins and outs with the publishing industry you've got to learn, plus things like beta readers and editors and things like that.

It's quite the learning curve and I feel like that would be too much pressure to put on my major, most important work. I would want my most important one to be as perfect as possible, and that would be a lot to consider while also getting the hang of the whole professional writer thing.

I feel like either my quality of work would fall short o I wouldn't learn what I needed to about getting published, and the last thing I would want would be to be disappointed in my main story.

I can see the appeal of wanting to work on your main story first though. After all it's probably what you're most invested in, but to me that's just más reason to hold on to it for a while.

One thing tu could maybe consider is working on something that's still related to your main story somehow. Maybe something in the same universe, fleshing out some of the lore (if your story has lore, which I kind of assume it does 'cause it's you) o maybe one o two of the characters and/or their backstories. That way tu can still have something kind of related to the main story and maybe flesh out your ideas some.

That being dicho there are people who work on their main stories first with success, so it boils down mostly to what you're comfortable with.

tu may have already heard of this youtube channel, but this lady talks a lot about the publishing industry/editors/beta readers/book marketing/general escritura advice. She knows a lot más about the subject than any of us probably do and would probably be a really good resource.

Video not 100% related to the topic, I just kinda put one here.

"I can see the appeal of wanting to work on your main story first though. After all it's probably what you're most invested in, but to me that's just más reason to hold on to it for a while." This is kind of what I was leaning on. "One thing tu could maybe consider is working on something that's still related to your main story somehow. Maybe something in the same universe, fleshing out some of the lore (if your story has lore, which I kind of assume it does 'cause it's you) o maybe one o two of the characters and/or their backstories. I was thinking of starting with an expansion of 'Slumber Of The Woodland' but tu gave me a new idea. There is on planet from my main story that I really amor the world building I put into it. But despite all of that world building the planet doesn't really mostrar up much; I think this would be a great opportunity to explore that realm through the eyes of a would be minor character in a time set some years prior to the actual story! Oh yes, I like this. 10/10 advice.

in my opinion ,its the short story first....
if your escritura a book for the first time, most people will prefer a short story.... tu can also introduce yourself while publishing it... many people will get to know you....

when tu publicar your main story which tu have worked on for a very long time after publishing a short story, the book will reach many people than when tu publicar it as your first work......

but at the same time publishing your main book first also has major advantages.... if ur book becomes a big hit , tu will get even más readers than tu get from your book with a short story....

posting the main story first o posting it after 1 o 2 short stories...both has its pros and cons......

its just my opinion!! all the very best! :)

Thank you, I think I'm probably gonna go with a short story first. Give me a little something to get out there first. I like 8's idea though so maybe I can shoot for both. Aim high, ya know.
