Amanda knocked on the door. Sherri answered moments later. “Oh my goodness! Amanda! tu are soaking wet! Come in! Come in!” She gently grabbed her shoulder and pulled her in. Sherri was about Amanda’s height, with straight brown hair and sea green eyes and lightly tanned skin and spoke with a Mexican accent. She helped her with her jacket. “Oh Amanda! Your eye! Tell me what happened! No wait, first we must get tu into some dry clothes. Come!” She led her to a bedroom and laid out some dry clothes and a towel for her and left her to change.

About ten minutos later Amanda emerged from the room in the dry clothes with the towel wrapped around her head. Sherri then took her to a chair that was set siguiente to a radiator. Once Amanda was sitting she covered her with a blanket and gave her some soup. Sherri examined her bruise and put some medication on it. Meanwhile, Amanda just ate and thought about her last pregnancy.

It was about a año ago. She and Hans were so thrilled to hear the news. About six months in, she and Hans were able to hear the heartbeat. They’d sit on the couch, she’s have the end of a stethoscope to her stomach; Hans would press his ear against it. They’d just sit there in silence listening to their unborn child’s heartbeat. But sadly in the middle of her third trimester, she miscarried. They’d tried as much as possible during the last año to get pregnant again. She only wished it hadn’t happened now.

Once she’d finished eating, Sherri asked once again what had happened to her. Amanda sighed. “Sherri, I don’t want to put your life in danger. I don’t want Hans to hurt tu too. It’s bad enough I’m coming to tu for help. All I need is a place to stay with someone I can trust. I need to disappear soon though. And I need a new look. Do that and I’ll leave. Please Sherri?” Amanda pleaded. “Of course. tu saved my sister’s life. I owe tu everything.” Sherri answered. “Just tell me what tu need.”

-------------------------------------------------------

Amanda just had the bandages removed. She slowly opened her eyes. The light stung a little after going a whole week without being able to open them. She looked in the mirror. The surgery paid off. She now had green eyes instead of blue, and she didn’t have worry about the contacts falling out. She just sat there, admiring how different she looked with straight brown hair and green eyes. She turned to Sherri. “Are tu sure no one will recognize me?” She asked. “Of course. I barely recognize tu myself. And we’ve been friends ever since we were hired as nurses six years ago. If I don’t recognize tu no one will.” Sherri assured her. “Oh but Hans will if he got close enough. That’s why I’m changing my name and leaving the country.” Amanda told her. “Okay, tu need to tell me what happened. This is ridiculous. This past week you’ve been actuación really strange and tu haven’t told me anything. What did Hans do to make tu need to do this?” Amanda sighed. “I didn’t want to tell tu because I didn’t want tu involved in this más than tu are now, but I suppose you’ll find out eventually anyway.” She reached into her bag and pulled out a newspaper and gave it to her. The main headline read:

CAPTAIN LEELAND MURDERED ON DENMARK MILITARY GROUNDS

Underneath that, two pictures were shown. One was of Hans, his name beneath that in bold, and siguiente to it was a picture of another man, someone named Alexander Fahlcon. The articulo read:

Captain Leeland was found dead on a military base in Copenhagen, Denmark. Sergeant Alexander Fahlcon was found at the scene of the crime and was tried and found guilty and was sentenced to death for the following morning. After being placed in high security, Sergeant Hans Gruber broke Fahlcon out. It is a mystery to where they are now, and there is a $10,000 bounty on both of their heads.

“Oh honey…I’m so sorry. I wondered where all of my newspapers were going. I guess that’s why tu didn’t want to watch the news too?” Amanda nodded, remembering how she’d change the channel as quick as she could when the news was on. She’d just told Sherri she wasn’t interested. “Look Sherri, I need to go. I need to get out of this country as fast as I can. I already have my fake ID and passport. Thank tu for being so good to me.” She grabbed her bag, hugged Sherri, and headed toward the door. “Goodbye and good luck Amanda.” Amanda turned to her at the door. “Amanda Taylor no longer exists. I am now Elizabeth Shields. Good bye Sherri.” And with that she was gone.

Three days passed and Skipper finally decided that the late night training exercises were not doing anyone any good. No one really knew why he had come to this conclusion, but perhaps he thought it was affecting Kowalski’s mind, as Kowalski had changed throughout the last three days.

Kowalski used to hate música and generally only tolerated it if it was soft and not repetitive and annoying. Now, he already listened to every record the penguins owned and even played them while he was fiddling with an invention. On día three, he finally packed up all of his inventions and threw them into a corner,...

Skipper had taken his time to get back from Marlene’s so he could piece together the best words to explain his and Marlene’s relationship, especially to young Private.

He entered through the fishbowl entrance as he usually would, and turned to face his team. Much to his surprise the three were standing facing him, almost as if they expected him.

“Skipper I believe there’s something tu need to tell these two.” Kowalski stated as he motioned his flipper first towards Rico then Private. The two of the stared at Skipper anxiously, waiting to hear what Kowalski was talking about.

Unfortunate for the buscar to conclude in failure. Of course, one couldn’t complain when two of the three penguins that engaged the mission had been lacking in effort. The third penguin, Rico, had found something rather interesting. A gray crowbar partially stained with blood of seemingly unknown origin. Normally, the explosives expert tended to golondrina any sort of object that sparked his interest, which, in this case, was so.

Now, at this point, Skipper and Kowalski really didn’t care for Private’s case, much to the small penguin’s delight. And then, typically, life went on as it had,...

In fact, that night, Private had much difficulty in falling asleep. Simply the thought of a friend who was in need prevented the pingüino, pingüino de from sleeping. He wondered if Rico was awake, too. He certainly hoped not. Private only wished the best for the regurgitating penguin.

Suddenly, a noise from below grasped Private’s full attention. On first inspection, it was difficult to determine what the sound was. Luckily, Private merely turned his head to the side and caught the perfect glimpse of Rico’s back. The heavyset pingüino, pingüino de was slowly heading towards the television. This baffled Private, for...

Despite the fact that it was well early in the morning, the injured Private was dado a few hours to himself for rest and recovery. Skipper stayed true to his word, being sure as to give Private his privacy throughout the entire day. Having done this, the leader also granted the rest of the team absolute freedom for the day. Hopefully, this would give the other penguins some time to themselves. After Private’s unexpected disappearance, it was probably for the best.

Taking advantage of these moments, Kowalski chose to sit in a corner of the room, escritura all of his thoughts on his notepad....

The rats lead Skipper away on the steel cage. This time he knew better than to struggle, he might as well save his energy for what was coming. ‘Well,’ thinks Skipper ‘I guess that this is the moment of truth.’ The sound of footsteps and the repugnant smell went away after a while and a few moments later Skipper felt himself being lowered down again. The cover is pulled away; Skipper blinks in the sudden light as his eyes adjust. In front of him stood Kowalski, Rico, and Private, all seeming exceedingly happy. Skipper was back inside his lair. The rats climb back outside chuckling as...

Chapter 2: "Career Change"

Liz glanced at her daughter in the back asiento through the rearview mirror of her silver Subaru Outback. "So, have tu named your little friends yet?"

"Yes." Chelsea held Skipper up. "This is Mr. Penguin." And then held up Marlene. "And this is Mrs. Penguin."

"No, no, sweetie. The brown one is an otter. Remember the story I told tu in the gift shop?"

"I know she's an otter, Mom. But she changed her name when she got married."

"Married?"...

Marlene yawned. “Thanks for taking me to that Enrique Guitaro concert, guys,” she dicho to the penguins as they drove her home. “It went a lot better than last time. And going backstage? That was”—she yawned again as if she hadn’t slept in days—“really awesome,” she finished.

Skipper chuckled from his place to the right of her. “I don’t think staying up all the way to one in the morning is a good idea for you.”

Marlene shook her head. “No, no, I’m awake.” She fought off another yawn and rubbed her eyes. “Tack as a sharp.”

“Hey, aren’t tu those penguins from the aquarium?” fred interrupted as he approached them.

Skipper rolled his eyes. “Zoo, actually. What do tu want, Fred? We’re in the middle of something,” he asked impatiently.

“Well, remember a couple of weeks hace when tu dicho you’ve always wanted to stargaze, but couldn’t because of the bright city lights?” Skipper asked, preparing to remove the blindfold.

    “Yes, why?” Marlene answered.

Skipper pulled off the blindfold. “That’s why,” he dicho with a grin.

“Maurice!” Julien cried from his throne.

Maurice trudged up to him, not even trying to hide his contempt. “Yes, your majesty?”

“I need another smoothie,” Julien said, propping his head up with one paw while rubbing his chest with the other. He coughed and wheezed. “I can feel my time approaching . . . so make it with extra mango for the extra sweet-y-ness-ness . . .”

Maurice rolled his eyes. “You dicho your time was approaching two days ago,” he said.

“Well, how should I know, Maurice? I am not Clair’s Voyage!” Julien dicho before coughing again.

“Morning, Nari!” Marlene dicho one morning, excitedly nudging her habitat-mate and adoptive sister. “Come on, wake up!” she urged, eager to get out in the Monterey sun.

Nari stretched her arms and legs with a yawn as she sat up. “Marlene, the morning will still be there in ten minutes,” she complained with a smile.

Marlene laughed and pulled her arm. “Don’t be a wimp! Come on! Let’s go for a swim!”

The two went outside their cave-like room out into the California spring morning, Marlene at the lead while Nari lagged behind. Marlene paloma into their pond while...
