In the "Omochi manga Summary" strip, is this a typographical error o did Amerimochi really mean it?

Notice what Amerimochi dicho of Mochirisu.

Should it really be "gay" o is it supposed to be "guy"?

'Cause if it really should be "gay" then it makes the old man's method of identifying the gender clear.
