The animes I thought were great are Ranma 1/2 (older), Lucky estrella (newer), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (newer), Urusei Yatsura (older) and kuroshitsuji (newer). If tu like comedy, go for an older series. anime nowadays is getting a little serious.
