He could be an Alcoholic o smoker, she's trying to make him stop and seek help but it only pushes them further apart.

Maybe her pushing to hard for him to get a good scholar ship at a college. She just wants to help him but ends up driving him away.

Maybe the boy's mother was killed years hace and the boy wants revenge. He's secretly a killer and the girl wants to stop him and make him learn that revenge isn't always a good thing.
