I amor George A. Romero's zombie movies. Their all so creative with their monsters, and how they manage to impress me with every film (With a few exceptions of Diary and Survival of the Dead). They were just so good. So good in fact, that the Dead series inspired a just as awesome zombie movie. Probably my favorito! horror comedy movie ever made. It's the classic British horror romantic comedy, Shaun of the Dead.
Shaun of the Dead is the classic 2004 movie staring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who would appear in other cine por the same creators, such as Hot Fuzz and The World's End. The movie follows a Shaun, a 29-year-old man who has no respect from his co-workers, doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, having issues with his stepfather, Phillip, not having the time to visit his mother, Barbara, his roommate, Pete, being sick of Shaun's unemployed best friend, Ed, and he and his girlfriend, Liz, having a very rough relationship, with their dates involving Ed and Liz's two flatmates, David and Dianne. Things seem pretty shit for Shaun, but only seem to get worse when a zombie apocalypse comes a few minutos into the movie. And I gotta say, the zombies just make the entire movie even más funny.
The very first moment the zombies mostrar up in the film, instead of freaking out and reacting like... well, anyone would in a zombie outbreak, Shaun and Ed just walk around, hungover, not even acknowledging the end of the world, and mistaking all the zombies as drunks o homeless. It's funny, but it's just as funny when they deal with the zombies. Throwing records at them, pretending to be zombies in order to sneak past them. This movie is just such so funny with how it treats the zombies. Another thing I like about the zombies in this movie is that every zombie tu see are all background characters tu see in the beginning. All of them are minor characters tu see, and the siguiente time tu see them, they're all turned to zombies. Instead of being one off background characters, they all come back as zombies. That's a very creative use of the actors and actresses.
Another thing I like about this movie is the mix of humor and horror. Whenever there is humor, it's used very subtly. Some jokes are pretty simple to see, but some are always hidden out of sight in some of the most creative ways imaginable. Some like not saying the word "zombie", to reference how the zombies in George A. Romero's cine were never directly called zombies, o how Ed trying to cheer Shaun up actually foreshadows later events in the movie, or, my personal favorite, how, being a part of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End all have a different colored Cornetto in them, with the one in Hot Fuzz being blue for the police, the one in The World's End being mint green for aliens, and the one in Shaun of the Dead being red for, tu guessed it, zombies. But the easy to see humor is just as good, such as them talking about which records they should throw and which they shouldn't, ignoring the obvious signs of a zombie outbreak, and zombies being used as employees and entertainment after the outbreak. Me and my friends would watch these scenes on replay and laugh our asses off each time. It just never gets old.
It's clear to see that Shaun of the Dead is a movie that I amor so much. The foreshadowing, the horror, the comedy, the use of characters and scenes. I amor this movie far too much, and so does the rest of the world. The movie was a huge success, with there being so much stuff shown to people when buying it on DVD (Which I totally did). Comic strips of characters, like Mary, mostrando her turn into a zombie. Little comic strips of how Shaun got away from the zombies o how Ed got into the shed. And my personal favorite, Funky Pete. What makes it so good? Pete's "fucks" are all replaced with the word "funk"... It's dumb, but I amor it.
I honestly couldn't say enough about this hilarious movie. There's so much I love, I Can't possibly thing of anything else to say. The movie was successful to get a huge cult following, get action figures of the characters from the movie, an original soundtrack of the movie, cameos of Simon Pegg and Shaun of the Dead creator, Edgar Wright, appearing in George A. Romero's Land of the Dead, and even two cine inspired por Shaun of the Dead. The 2010 Cuban movie. Juan of the Dead, and the 2013 movie from Singapore, Hsien of the Dead. Perhaps I should review those cine some other time. Anyway, Shaun of the Dead is a true classic among horror fans, zombie fans, cult fans, and just anyone who loves British comedy. It's one of the greatest horror comedies ever, and I recommend it highly. Take care
