p.s. please explain your answer in comments:) I've heard some tvders accuse us Damon lovers of keeping him from being responsible for anything he does. I think to some of us, he can do no wrong!But I don't shelter him! I know Damon can grow!I dunno...what does everybody think?

Well..I think somtimes he is a DICK..for example with Alaric..and I dont shelter him!!!

It really depens on what he does. I think some of his action are not so bad that some fans accuse. His character is that way. Yes he was wrong with Alaric but Alaric, his friend, told him to stay away from the girl he loves...Alaric was wrong too. And no because they are friends but because Damon is the one that always saves Elena! She needs him! No one have the right to take him away from her. And Damon and everyone else. But of course we can't be all so objective if we love him. The same with Stefan, Elena, Bonnie fans. No one is objective 100%. -I'm off topic?-

look, i feel like it's the same way with all the other fanbases, like stefan, elena, bonnie, etc. but since there are so many damon fans, and damon has soo many scenes, it's much more obvious i guess.

Im a fan of Stefan and Damon and i seen all of these done to both so it shouldn't really target only Damon fans but i did see a lot of DELENA fans shelter him.

I agree ^joisyhearts. I do think each fanbase is devoted to their guy/girl so can't help being a bit biased. There are extreem fans out there who over shelter their guy/girl on the show; those are the ones that get really rabid. They viciously attack anyone who says anything at all about their character,even if the accusation is true; those fans ruin it for the rest of us! They piss me off because the majority of fans aren't a bunch of mindless zombies who refuse to see when our guy/girl makes a bad move; the crazy fans just make it look that way.

As said above there are fans from each character fanbase who are overprotective of their fave character but Damon seems to be the most popular character therefore has a more noticeable defensive fanbase. Plus his actions are the most in the grey area.

For example- Damon force feeding Elena blood? WRONG.
BUT we are shown his motives and thoughts and we understand he acts our of desperation and fear for losing the one he loves.
We see the sympathetic side behind it.

Same with when Damon snapped Jeremys neck. SO SO AWFUL.
BUT we've been shown how erratic and impulsive Damon can be and how easily he can be riled by Katherine and how much pain she caused him. We're aware of his circumstances which in turn makes it easier to understand and forgive his actions.

I think it is just Damons character. He does awful things some times and you'll get the fans who take into account motives, reasons, influences, past behaviour, personality, nature, etc or you'll get the fans who are just like 'nuh ah. not on!'

I think the most defensiveness comes out when the accusation against Damon seems to be blown out of porportion. Like when some fans said him pushing Elena in the water was abusive. I think the overactions can go both ways. From those who defend and those who accuse.

Every fanbase is bias, so of course the Damon fans are going to be incredibly bias.
