The Kids Don’t Know What They Don’t Know
Chapter 4
School time
I packed my blue and black backpack and dicho good-bye to my mom. When Dominic and I met at the stop, there was an Asian-Latin girl yelling at a nerd girl in Spanish. “Eres una niña americana estúpida! Que nunca caben en nerdface!” she yelled. I was fluent in Spanish, so I came up to the girl. She was very pretty, with long brown hair and smoky eyes that were shooting daggers. But I instantly hated her, while my brother drooled. I smacked him on the arm. I dicho to her, “Deja a esta chica en paz!” witch means, “Leave this girl alone!” She yelled más Spanish words, and I yelled back in English. At witch point the bus came. The driver was five minutos early. he dicho that there would be assigned seats and my brother got paired with Genn. LaShequa was paired with the nerd, whose name is Bella, and I was paired with…………..ugg, The Latin chick, Hanalei. We weren’t the only ones on the bus but I couldn’t name them all for the life of me.
Hanalei and I have Spanish together. Have to watch my tongue. I noticed that Hanalei was looking at my necklace, a.k.a my good luck charm. It was the last thing dado to me por my dad before he left. It is a oro cage with a fake pearl inside and a long chain. The oro has become musty over the years, but it’s my favorito! thing in the world, so I covered it when she came by. I don’t trust her. My brother takes German so he wasn’t there to drool over her. Thank God. I know he likes her but really, she is a jerk. I answered everything in Spanish when the teacher asked, and got A on my pop quiz. Even La Cukobird (Hanalei) couldn’t do that. She got a B. I was having a blast in 7th grade!
Dominic and I walked to pickup. Instead of mom’s awesome black mini van, I saw the Junk-Truck. “No! No, no, no, no, no! I will not get in that truck! It’s a death trap!” I yelled. I realized who I sounded like, and so did Dominic. “Well ok, Courtney, tu can walk ten miles. Would tu like that?” he said. I just walked up to the truck. I opened the door to the front asiento and my dad looked at me. “Ell, why are tu sitting up here?” he asked me. I dicho back, “The seats in the back are messed up.” My dad complied as Dominic climbed in the back. Before we could argue he turned up the radio. If there is one thing our family agrees on, its music. Mom, Dad, Dominic and I amor Lady Gaga. My favorito! song is Just Dance. My dad played that song really loud. I mean so loud we got pulled over. My smile instantly faded. The police officer stepped out and told Dad his música was too loud and gave him a ticket. Then got back in his car and drove off. “Dad!” Dominic and I said. We didn’t like when he has brushes with the law. It normally ends in steel bars and bail money.
When Dominic and I walked in the door with Dad, Mom started freaking out. I was very confused and she sent me and my brother to my room. I walked into the hallway to hear their conversation. “I thought Courtney was picking them up!” Mom said. “Business. And tu don’t trust her as far tu can throw her!” Dad retorted. He had a smug smile on his face, like he just won a fight. Mom looked exhausted. “I don’t trust her, but I trust that she won’t tell!” Mom yelled. At this point Dominic was there as well. “Well, Gwen, I won’t tell either. All of us agreed we wouldn’t! Why do tu think we all live in the same area? SO WE CAN-” Mom interrupted him. “-Make sure no one tells. But the only ones we have talked to in the last five years are Cody, Sierra, Geoff, Bridgette, Harold, and LeShawna! And Alejandro and Heather just moved into this neighbor hood!” I didn’t know who they are talking about! Grrr. I heard a door slam. I walked out and mom was crying! I ran out the front door to my dad before he left. “Duncan!” I yelled. I was TICKED! “Come back inside, we need to talk.” At that point, it began to pour, so he came back inside. “I have one question”, I said.
What is her question?
