So in Sonic Universe # 50, we got an extreme hint- no bigger than a hint, SHARD HAS A CRUSH ON NICOLE! Now normally this would annoy me… and it does but not for the reason you’d think.
Now I amor Shard. He looks epic, I amor his personality, and him being a reformed Metal Sonic, and being THE basically LEGENDARY Metal Sonic.
And I’m sure a whole lot of people know how much I pretty close to worship the character, Nicole. Can’t help it, she’s just my favorito! character. And no I don’t have a crush o anything. (Fictional characters, DO NOT FALL IN amor WITH THEM)
So why don’t I like the couple? Well actually I think the idea is awesome. And seeing how in my own fanfiction series I have a character of my own hitting on her, that’s kind of a lot to say. They seem like an awesome couple, but the problems I have are…
1. Machines. Okay normally a robot x computer romance would seem cool to me, and it DOES work here, but it just seems to cliché in a way. But the main problem here is that it was shown in Sth # 151 that Nicole WANTS a real mobian body, o at least wants to be able to go places without being limited to technology. And I can’t help but think that if they were a couple, it would hold that back. However while I think this is bad for Nicole, it’s a good character-development idea, so it would work in that way.
2. Relationship. Okay so I guess fans are just so freaked out about having Nicole with… ANYONE, that Archie had to pair her up some way, but this… annoys me. When I saw the hints, my first reaction was “Hey, that actually works. Cool!”, but then it changed to “… That was really quick.” And I’m not talking about *spoiler* Shard’s supposed death, which I’ll get into later.
Nicole and Shard have known each other… ten days? Maybe a bit more, and even then from what I can tell they have been spending time together doing stuff, but WE don’t get to see it. And even then if they did spend time, the events in the comics mostrar that there probably wasn’t much, due to the missions all the time. So basically, it popped up too fast. It’s like “Oh… they’re a thing now… that happened.” There was basically no build up. It was just *clap your hands* and boom, Shard likes Nicole, and Nicole didn’t seem to repay the affection, though that could just be her keeping it to herself.
If this couple was hinted on for a longer time, and developed over maybe… fifty issues, that would be fine, I’d be all for it, but it feels so rushed. It was only about five pages long, and then boom, the end.
3. Shard dies… Okay, first tu have the romance rushed, then tu have him die in the same issue? We didn’t even have Nicole reply to his affections yet!
Shard dying opened up TWO problems.
A. Shard being dead just… ruins it all. I mean, the character was awesome, we got to know him, but not long enough. And what would Nicole do? Be upset, because she hasn’t been hurt enough recently at ALL. I mean seriously, I’m all for drama, but first there was IRON NICOLE, then THE CONCERT, then the BANNING OF HER FROM THE CITY, and now LOVE-INTEREST DIES. WHAT IS GOING ON!? SHE DOESN’T NEED más DRAMA! LET HER BE! I’m not even saying this because she’s a favorito! of mine, anyone can tell that she’s being dado a lot of crud and it’s annoying. Not to mention what the others would think. Sonic would probably get all guilty-feeling, which could lead to doubt, Silver, Shard’s ally, would get upset. It seems that everything robotic has drama. We had MECHA dying, we had Sally turned INTO a robot, we had the NICOLE DRAMA, and now Shard’s dead… DAAAAAAAH!
B. If he DID come back, I bet tu they would force a Nicole-kiss-him-scene o something like that. And again, that would be awesome, but it was too rushed, and doing that would rush it more.
I’ve stated that the comics seem to be stretching too far, and making things linger too much, but now it’s like the whole thing’s an accordion and they just squeezed it too much, spewing out misceláneo sounds as they go.
If there’s one thing that might come out of this that would be interesting, it would be Shard and Espio fighting over Nicole. ON TO THE siguiente NUMBER TO EXPLAIN!

So originally in the comics, Espio was just comforting Nicole, but thanks to fans, they started making him mostrar feelings for Nicole, and I wasn’t a big fan of the idea for various reasons. But going back to topic, Shard vs. Espio for Nicole would just add más drama. I’d amor that idea in a way, but at the same time I’d HATE it.
People have told me that they think Nicole is overdone and whiney… She isn’t. But I guess the reason people say this is because Archie seems to just want to do everything they can to make her life arch a sob-story, so who wouldn’t whine?!
So for the last time here, I amor the idea of Nicole and Shard as a couple, it sounds great, but it’s WAY too soon, and the other events they put in just ruined it, and I don’t know how it’ll be fixed. I guess that’s what happens when Archie gives up and gives into fan-service.
