My current House-related obession is the official soundtrack. While it doesn't include what many fans would consider essential House songs (such as The Who's "Baba O'Reilly" and AC/DC's "Highway To Hell", just to name a couple), every track on the album is excellent and reminds us of our favourite episodes, scenes and characters. So I thought I would share with tu a few lyrics from certain songs on the album that really capture the essence of all that is Dr. Gregory House.
*Lyrics in bold are ones that I think are particularly significant!
From 'Walter Reed'- Michael Penn
I count the cases piled up high
For the 1:15.
For platform and for passerby
It's the same routine.
I'm ranting while I'm raving,
There's nothing here worth saving.
Tell me now, what más do tu need?
Take me to Walter Reed tonight.
Baby I've lost the will for fighting
Over everything.
Well there's a few things I gotta say
And make no mistake, I'm mad.
'Cause every good thing I've had
Abandoned me.
All I want to do is hide.
It's graduation day
And everything I learned inside
Didn't seem to pay.
I've had my fill of palm trees
And lighting up Grauman's Chinese.
Tell me now, what más do tu need?
Take me to Walter Reed tonight.
Baby I've lost the will for fighting
Over everything
And there's a few things I gotta say.
Make no mistake, I'm mad.
'Cause every good thing I had
Abandoned me.
A sad and lonesome me.
I'm the walking wounded
And I'd say it to your face
But I can't find my place.
So tell me now, what más do tu need?
Take me to Walter Reed tonight.
Baby I've lost the will for fighting
Over everything
And there's a few things I gotta say.
Make no mistake, I'm mad
'Cause every good thing I had
Abandoned me.
A sad and lonesome me.
A sad and lonesome me.
A sad and lonesome me.
This songs always reminds me of how House is in general. Sort of brooding and melancholy but in a way, kind of upbeat about his own misery.
From 'See The World'- Gomez
día to day
Where do tu want to be?
'Cos now you're trying to pick a fight
With everyone tu need
You seem like a soldier
Who's lost his composure
You're wounded and playing a waiting game
In no-man's land no-one's to blame
See the world
Find an old fashioned girl
And when all's been dicho and done
It's the things that are given, not won
Are the things that tu earned
Empty handed, surrounded por a senseless scene
With nothing of significance
Besides a shadow of a dream
You sound like an old joke
You're worn out, a bit broken
Asking me time and time again
And the answer's still the same
See the world
Find an old fashioned girl
And when all's been dicho and done
It's the things that are given, not won
Are the things that tu earned
You've got a chance to put things right
So how's it going to be?
Lay down your arms now
And put us beyond doubt
So reach out it's not too far away
Don't mess around now, don't delay
See the world...
This song reminds me of how people see House. People who care about him, like Cuddy, Wilson, Cameron and Stacey, see him as a tough but also fragile man and I think this song captures that!
From 'Are tu Alright?'- Lucinda Williams
Are tu alright?
All of a sudden tu went away
Are tu alright?
I hope tu come back around someday.
Are tu alright?
I haven't seen tu in a real long time.
Are tu alright?
Could tu give me some kind of sign?
Are tu alright?
I looked around me and tu were gone.
Are tu alright?
I feel like there must be something wrong.
Are tu alright?
Cause it seems like tu disappeared.
Are tu alright?
Cause I've been feeling a little scared.
Are tu alright?
Are tu sleeping through the night?
Do tu have someone to hold tu tight?
Do tu have someone to hang out with?
Do tu have someone to hug & kiss you?
Hug & kiss you
Hug & kiss you
Are tu alright?
Are tu alright?
Is there something been bothering you?
Are tu alright?
I wish you'd give me a little clue.
Are tu alright?
Is there something tu want to say?
Are tu alright?
Just tell me that you're OK.
Are tu alright?
Cause tu took off without a word.
Are tu alright?
tu flew away like a little bird.
Are tu alright?
Is there anything I can do?
Are tu alright?
Cause I need to hear from you.
Are tu alright?
Are tu sleeping through the night?
Do tu have someone to hold tu tight?
Do tu have someone to hang out with?
Do tu have someone to hug & kiss you?
Hug & kiss you
Hug & kiss tu
Are tu alright?
Are tu alright?
Are tu alright?
This song makes me think of House's relationship with Wilson and Cuddy. They are constantly trying to help him out and make sure he is okay. But, like in the song, they repeat themselves ("Are tu alright? Are tu alright") But House often ignores them o does the opposite of what they say.
I also like the lyrics from 'Got To Be más Careful' por Jon Cleary. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the full lyrics, but the song definately reminds me of the battles House has faced against both Vogler and Tritter. And, of course, the infamous 'You Can't Always Get Want' por The Rolling Stones/Band From TV.......
YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT tu WANT.
BUT IF tu TRY SOMETIMES,
WELL,
tu JUST MIGHT FIND...
tu GET WHAT tu NEED!
Oh yeah.
