fanpop Article: UNIVERSAL WARNING -- PLEASE READ

For reasons as of yet unknown, fanpop seems to have something against the website b l o g s p o t . c o m -- posting enlaces from this site will cause tu to get temporarily suspended.
We first noticed this when I tried to link a blog from that site with my 'main' account, lucius_malloy, and got temporarily suspended. Later this happened with a total of six other accounts: luciusmalloy (my first back-up account), harrypotterbest, Accio_Pandorica, lumiss, Gemonkus and germany123.
We have contacted fanpop about this issue and are hoping for a reply soon, but in the mean time, we are warning tu against posting enlaces from the site-that-shall-not-be-named for fear of suspension. Feel free to test out this theory if tu want, but it is advised tu do it with a separate account created for this purpose. If tu do get banned because of this o have at some point gotten banned because of this, please inform me por either commenting on this articulo o escritura on my muro so we can add tu to the lista of banned users.
Today is 4/2/2011. I sent fanpop a letter yesterday, 3/2/2011, in which I explained the problem and asked for a response. If I have not gotten one por 6/2/2011, I will post that letter as an articulo in this spot and others, and possibly write a new one.

misanthrope86 Thanks cassie, you got more information outta her than I did! Detail is key when trying to work out a problem like this. SO, you were posting those links within a FORUM, not the links section? You didn't say that before. But I think you have your answer write there: spam filter. If you tried posting the same link repeatedly within a forum, I think the spam filter would for sure have picked that up as spam. Like cassie said, knowing what was posted (I know you said a couple of blogs, but you didn't say anything about the content, like I asked) and if you had said that these links were posted in a forum right from the start, that would have made things even clearer even quicker. Details, details, details. Thanks cassie and germany for backing me up on this, because I was starting to think I had gone insane.

malloy THANK YOU, Accio. Now could some one tell me why a link would get caught in the spam filter if it's posted in a forum? I've posted plenty of links in forums before. And if you really think it'll make a difference, here's the links I posted: - ilostthegame dot blog spot dot com (posted twice) - stellaandy dot blog spot dot com (posted once) Then I mentioned my suspicions on that very same forum, and asked whether someone would be willing to test is. harrypotterbest tried and got suspended, as did later lumiss, Accio_Pandorica and Gemonkus.

MissKnowItAll I just wrote \\b/l/o/g/s/p/o/t/./c/o/m// (in full) on a comment and the comment was deleted and my account suspended.

misanthrope86 Spam-like comments are also picked up by the spam filter, not just spam links. If you post the same thing multiple times, Fanpop interprets that as spam. And since all that happened in the same forum, I am 99% certain that you and your friends got trapped in the spam filter. Whether you believe that or not is up to you.

malloy I don't believe it for a freaking reason, okay? That forum has seen pages filled with posts saying simply "SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM", which is why I'm finding it exceedingly hard to believe that posting a link got me banned the very first time I ever did it.

cassie-1-2-3 I don't think the spam filters would detect the actual word "spam". If that were the case, it would be against the rules to talk about canned meat as well. Legit spammers wouldn't post "spam spam spam" repeatedly, so there's no reason to go after that. Perhaps posting "spam spam..." at rapid speed over and over again (a.k.a. copy/paste) would do it. That forum is over 1000 pages long and filled with random conversation. I would guess with confidence that blogspot links have been posted 100+ times there. As I'm not sure about spam filters and timing, perhaps it has reached it's quota? I don't know, it's a random guess. As for the individual users, perhaps you guys have also posted blogspot links and the detectors are following you? Since they appear to be random links not posted in the links section.

cassie-1-2-3 Maybe a person who doesn't constantly post blogspot links should try it. Someone with a different IP

malloy I've been on that forum since page 115 or so, and as far as I can remember, there's never been any BS links posted. and maybe not the word spam, but an entire page filled with separate posts saying spam? some filters.

Italktosnakes I didn't post mine in the forum, and I still got suspened :L x And I didn't even know what blogspot was before this. Also, my sister (who never goes on this and has a different IP) tried it on a Justin Bieber Forum (I don't know which one) and she's suspended. I don't really care whether it's to do with it or not. All I care about is that if it ism it can be sorted out, so either everyone knows, or it's fixed :L x

misanthrope86 Wow. I was wrong. Sorry about that malloy. Sounded too insane to be true. Still sounds too insane to be true. But it is for sure a glitch in the Fanpop system.

malloy ah, it's fine. but hey, I just got a response from Dave - apparently, there's been some problems with spammers using Blogger sites, which is why the links got caught in the spam filters. so technically, I was kinda wrong too... but it's all good now. the banned accounts should come back (except for germany123, I dunno about that one, since it wasn't in the original letter).

cassie-1-2-3 If you really want to share a blogspot link, you can try and put it through a url changer before posting it, such as tinyurl.com or shorturl.com

O how much joy do we all get when we find out we have a apoyo o are a dedicated fan. It shows how are hard work of adding and loving our time on the site is paying off.

I woke this morn and loged on like every morning just to find out i am now a die-hard fan of heroes YAY was the first thing to go through my head the joy O the joy. The only game on fanpop is pop examen (except the games fans makes in the fourms). It's so much fun to answer and do preguntas and try to be at the parte superior, arriba list. But there is only one game like that, so i come up with an idea.
I'll be like the pop examen with a parte superior, arriba lista and the fans makes all the matches and tu can reportar them (you can't remove them por yourself), everyone can comentario the match after doig them and it'll shows who has done every match and how hard every match is (%), as i dicho it's pretty much like pop quiz!

The update idea

For quite a while I've been commenting on other people's picks and waiting for a reply, and refreshing the page, and refreshing the page, and refreshing the page, only to find that they haven't replied for 2 days and finally figure that they have probably gone on holiday o actually have a life.

So I have thought up an idea to keep us aware of any comentarios on our comments.... whatever; anyway I have thought up of a "keep me updated" button; this means that comentarios appear in our update box as if we owned the content.

So I've been a member of fanpop for a little while now, and I've seen how the community has evolved and grown. I first came to fanpop for two reasons: link and link.

Towards the end of Season 1 of Heroes, my interest in fanpop started waning. Call it TV burnout. But a funny thing happened: Dave sent me a message about a new feature that was going to debut: Picks! I dabbbled in it a little por adding the pick: link It was fun, but I didn't think I'd be creative enough to add any good...
