Definitely! I see a lot of people giving Merida crap for that reason. I care more about an interesting DP with a genuine development over a DP that's a "good role model". Also young boys need male characters that would be a good role model for them too. I actually made a poll like this a while back

I actually like that DPs are role models But role models are allowed to have flaws - and are often better and more interesting characters for having them and overcoming them. They shouldn't be getting hate for it, especially when we don't freak out the same way over the princes' flaws.

Pretty much. Hiro almost killed a person in his movie, but nobody goes around complaining about that. Instead, Anna falls in love or Rapunzel likes baking, and they're bombarded with people complaining about horrible role models and such.

Jack Sparrow is a pirate and possibly killed or tortured, yet people go on and on about him being a badass (then again POTC seems to be aimed more at teens/young adults than kids so I can let it slide, at that age people don't need role models as much as little kids do imo, or any at all).

I think if boys had more positive role models in media, maybe there wouldn't be this big problem of them growing up and turning into douches.
