I don't think that just being something is over-hyped and is being shown EVERYWHERE in media is a good enough reason to hate or dislike it. I mean, the Frozen hype is getting annoying and is driving pretty much everyone CRAZY! But at the same time, look at films like Shrek, The Lion King, and Toy Story 3. When those movies came out they were absolutely EVERYWHERE and they were driving people insane. But those films are still considered great and classic movies. So I think it's a very weak reason not to like something. I am guilty of this with Frozen but now I do realize that, while it's REALLY flawed, it's still a genuinely good movie. Plus I'd rather people years from now be watching Frozen than something like Twilight, How To Train Your Dragon (The Original), Kung-Fu Panda, the live-action Transformers movies, or Adventure Time.
Yes! It's just so annoying when something is crammed down your throat. It's like hearing a song so many times it gets worn out...you get bored with it. I'm just so tired of hearing about Frozen. Of course there are other reasons for me not liking it, but this is the main one. It's just everywhere, I can't go anywhere without hearing about it. I mean it's a cute movie but it isn't that great. More than that though, it's the fact that they over-market it. I get it, it's a money grab and everything is about money, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. It's like Frozen merch is outshining all the other DP's and that's another part of what makes it so hugely infuriating to me personally. For crying out loud on Christmas morning the TV was on in the background and they had a whole Frozen Christmas parade going on. That's when I threw in the towel.
This is a case of "too much of a good thing can be bad." I think getting tired of something is a very good reason for not liking it, and with all of the Frozen hype that is still going on more than a year after the movie was released a LOT of people are getting tired of Frozen. It's similar to when you eat too much of your favorite food and then get tired of it for a while. Most of the people who are sick of the Frozen hype will probably start to like Frozen again after the hype dies down, but for now it's just too much. They just don't want to think about Frozen anymore.
Overexposure to anything leads to boredom, it eventually gets tiring hearing about the same thing over and over again. It especially gets worse if the product in itself isn't very good, so the world keeps wetting their panties over a mediocre movie that you think Disney could do better (and they certainly have). It's just that i just don't find it a very good movie and i'm surprised the world is so in love with it. It's the same problem with the Lion King, a movie very popular but I can't enjoy because it has too many problems.
In comparison, Finding Nemo, while overexposed, it's STILL a pretty good movie and it still stands strong despite its publicity.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Most people know that I like the show Winx but I've actually grown to hate it because they're just dragging it out for too long. And that's what they're doing to Frozen. Heck, they're making a Frozen 2, and I don't really see the need for it. I also didn't care to see them wedge Frozen into Once Upon A Time. Tbh, I think that's what did it in for me.

This is the other thing that grinds my gears. It's been over a year now! Not even Twilight/Hp had this long of a hype for one movie. The reason the HP/Twilight hype went on for so long was because they were a series of books made in to movies. I don't even like Twilight and I'm cool with that. These series were the biggest of their decade (arguably) and after they officially ended the hype died down within months. Frozen was a single movie (up until the hype became such a money grab, that they decided to make a second) and the craze is still going on pretty strong. And it's been a bit over a year now. That's just crazy and eventually people grow tired of it. And that's fair enough.

These two points also do it in for me. I mean the movie was alright but come on, personally I think Disney made much better. Tbh the animation was much better than the plot. The put so much time into the animation and the scores that they really didn't do enough world building and character development. This is getting kind of off topic for the question though. But it factors in due to the fact that (in my opinion) there are other Disney movies that much better deserve the popularity achieved by Frozen. Hype up something with a better plot. I don't mean to knock Frozen's plot, it was fine...but fine is just it, average. And then there are some of the classics which I feel have much more intriguing, unique plots that deserve the hype Frozen is getting.
IF Elsa and Anna had LIVED up to the hype, then the hype would be justified. But they don't. They share barely any screen-time together. Elsa comes across as selfish and mean. Anna comes across as foolish and self-sacrificing. The song music for Frozen was middle to average, and it bordered far too quickly on annoying. Once you had heard each song twice, you wanted the songs to stop playing! None of the songs stood up to repeated listening. None matched the quality of Angela Lansbury singing Beauty and The Beast, nor Jodi Benson singing Part of Your World, nor Ilene Woods singing A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes.
Too little time was spent on actually developing the characters. The 180 degree short-changed/shoehorned villain in Hans proves this point alone. Most of the time Frozen spent in development seemed devoted towards the CGI effects and Elsa's sparkling dress and ice powers. There is NO STORY really happening in Frozen. It just seems like a set of random ideas worked around Elsa walking up a hill and figuratively "letting it all hang out."
Hype is only good if it's justified. With Frozen, there is nothing to back up the praise with which people keep dousing it.
Yes. And my cousin came over on Halloween and actually played the film. It was horrible! Some things you just know that you're not gonna like. Besides, with all of the Frozen merchandise they have out there, I couldn't even imagine being a fan. I couldn't possibly afford all of that stuff! I would be an angry fan.
something that doesn't live up to the obsession people have with it and hype (be it a movie OR character) makes it less appealing, of course.
and does it annoy anyone else there's still SO MUCH Frozen crap to buy but you can hardly find ANYTHING for Big Hero 6? I'd much rather have more Honey and Gogo merchandise than see one more t-shirt, Pop Vinyl, poster, or piece of candy with Elsa's or Olaf's faces on it (sadly, though I prefer Anna, she gets almost NO merchandise).
Frozen is over a year old. Let's take a break and give BH6 and other movies a turn to shine.
^As long as people like little girls and college fangirls/fanboys keep wetting their panties over Frozen and buying every shitty merchandise there is out there of the film, the Frozen mania won't stop.
Which is a huge shame tbh. I really want more Hiro stuff. I especially want merchandise with human!Fred.
No....but it being a mediocre movie which got way more credit than it deserved is a good enough reason. I wouldn't mind the hype if a movie actually lives up to it to a certain degree. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it should be at least as good that if would get a spot in my top 20 Disney movie list. Frozen is top 30.
