I don't know if I agree it was really spineless. Mulan didn't indicate that she never wanted an arranged marriage- she didn't know what she wanted at all. She was trying her best to please her family, which is what she thought would make her happy as well.
And I don't think Mulan was afraid to break tradition- she did have something to say when her father was dragged into the army ("You shouldn't have to go! There are plenty of young men to fight for China!") so I think if she really thought arranged marriages were bad, she would have said something then, too.

I wouldn't say so. It isn't clear that she didn't want it, but she just wanted to bring her family honor.

Aurora was forced into the situation. It was shown many times she was clearly unhappy.

While it's pretty sure to assume Mulan's situation also wasn't voluntary, we can assume she didn't seem that much against it in the first place. She seemed willing to go through with it and even seemed excited about it at times.

Spineless? Ouch....that's how ALL marriages were in that time and culture, it would have been selfish of her NOT to do it...cuz otherwise shed be shaming her entire family, inviting all kinds of trouble

^my point exactly. Mulan gets a pass because historical accuracy for the exact same stuff the other girls get criticized for.

PL- is it? They were both nearly put in arranged marriages by their parents. The main differences are Mulan was much less miserable about it (which is funny when you consider her fan rep as the toughest, most assertive DP ever) and might have at least known the guy she'd get betrothed to. My point was it looks super hypocritical that the others (yes, especially Aurora) get called weak for going along with stuff they don't want. Why didn't Mulan stand up for herself like people always say the other DPs need to do? Or run away like Jasmine and Ariel?
