You cannot have so much intellectual curiosity about something without having intelligence. Again, I don't fault Ariel for taking a risk with Ursula- she was pushed to a breaking point and I don't fault people who take risks that have slim chances of success. To me, that has nothing to with intelligence. Playing safe does not necessarily equal intelligence. Sometimes you have to take stupid risks/risks not in your favor to get what you want. Ariel's hoarding shows her intellectual interest and attempting to figure out how the human world operates. That being said, she is pretty sheltered and unaware of her surroundings.

She is intellectually curious, but I do blame her for taking a risk with Ursula. Self-control and emotional stability are signs of intelligence to me.

I don't think she went to Ursula because she was dumb, she went because she was prepared to take the risk at that stage.
