Why is "Nigger" a bad word?

Nigger was an informal slang term used por slave owners, in reference to their slaves. I don't think it was necessarily "coined" por anyone, but it was adopted por slave owners.

It derived from the neutral verb, "negro", which means black. Slave owners took the word, changed it into "nigger", and used the word to refer to their slaves because they didn't want to dignify them with a real name.

It's insulting to black people because it can signify that tu are undeserving of a birth-given name, simply because your skin is dark.

In reciente day, the term has been altered into a term of endearment of sorts. Some black people have taken a hurtful word and turned it into something they can use to lessen it's original meaning. It can still be offensive, depending on who tu are and how tu use it.
It's a touchy issue that I wish everyone would just drop. i'd rather nobody called anyone a nigger, in a good o bad way. It would eliminate a lot of tension.

To be honest. No word in itself is bad... it's just the associations we make with it. tu can have a word that sounds the same in different languages and has a different meaning in each language. So it's not the word that's intrinsically bad, it's what we make it mean. But, If tu have to type it with hyphens and asterisks, the answer should be obvious. The "N" word, I believe, was originally used in a derogotory sense toward any ignorant person. When there were slaves in the US, the slave owners (mainly white families) started to use the word against their slaves. The word just stuck. It's considered extremely rude because when it first came into use it was used to describe somebody who was ignorant, stupid, good for nothing other than manual labor. In the end, it just turned into a racist, bigoted term that is looked upon as derogatory and condescending. In other words, and it is not just another word for African American. Whoever dicho that was seriously mistaken and probably missing a few thousand brain cells.

But personally, I like the term "Negro" better than "Nigger" because "Nigger" sounds offensive. "Negro" does too, but it's the Spanish word for black.

I don't find the term "nigger" offensive. I've become desensitized to its frequent usage. Where once it was offensive, it is now apart of our colloquial conversation.

I haven't been able to research it, but from what I've heard it started off as a perfectly harmless word, a corrupted form of negro not nee-grow but nay-gro. As for the word nigger itself, no word is a bad word. Words are just collections of sounds that we give meaning to. Unfortunately, this word has been dado a very bad connotation over time, so if tu want to know, no word is bad, but the connotation is. I have always understood "nigger" to derive from the southern USA pronunciation of "negro" - something like "negre" - a convenient and contemptuous way of referring to slaves. Therefore, its use has been offensive for más than 150 years. For example, Frank Richards, in a story in a popular boy's weekly in 1908 in the UK, refers to "the objectionable word nigger". So, there is no excuse for using it now. The best way to treat it is as equal to the most objectionable swear word tu can think of. Not a word to use with people tu want to respect you.

It has to do with what a black man is wishing for, it has to do with the sense of belonging to a true religious goal o the sense of belonging to a land. In Denmark the danish variant "neger" wasn't considered that bad until a few years back. Like english "the n*-word" refers to a black person and not the color itself . It was both part of the name of a certain sweet comida bun (Directly translated "n*-kiss") and also used in a nursery rhyme. Today the danish word is as bad as the english. But to be honest I think most danish people only had a naive idea about what a black person was earlier, a bit like an old black-white movie.

The n*-word has been use por slave owners, and therefore suggests ownership of a black person. I believe, for that reason and that reason alone, the n*-word has become what it is today.

But while I might not mind the word itself. There is no similar word for white people, which I think is odd. There is an disorder which people have the name that is closest to what I would expect: "albinos" (yeah I know what they are).
