Critical Analysis of Twilight Pregunta

Do tu think Edward o any of the Cullens/vampires have souls? (please read full description)

In New Moon, the reader is told that Edward doesn't believe he has a soul. That is why Edward does not want to change Bella. He thinks he is damning her.

Carlile however says, "I’m sure all this sounds a little bizarre, coming from a vampire. But I’m hoping that there is still a point to this life, even for us. It’s a long shot, I’ll admit. por all accounts, we’re damned regardless. But I hope, maybe foolishly, that we’ll get some measure of credit for trying."

He also says, "I look at my… son. His strength, his goodness, the brightness that shines out of him— and it only fuels that hope, that faith, más than ever. How could there not be más for one such as Edward?"

What do tu think? The things the Cullens do, "Like everything in life, I just had to decide what to do with what I was given. (Carlisle, pg. 35)" do tu think they are damned?

Critical Analysis of Twilight Respuestas

I am honestly unsure. I do not think Edward is as good a person as Carlisle seems to insist that he is (after all, they do say in Eclipse that "killing is fun", even if they are killing their own kind). He also abuses Bella (psychologically, mostly, though there is a little bit of physical abuse there as well). I know Stephenie Meyer thinks that Edward is perfect, the best person that can ever exist, but I really think that she can be quite blind to her own characters at times.

I personally do not believe in THAT kind of afterlife, though I do believe in an afterlife. I don't believe in Heaven and Hell. I believe that our spirits go into a different Realm, o maybe a different dimension.

Now, I think that it is a bad thing that Bella is willing to maim her soul in order to live forever. Whether it actually does harm her soul o not, the fact that she is willing is not a good sign.

This is just what I personally thing. tu are free to disagree with me.

Well, i don't fully disagree with you. Stephenie Meyer's favorito! character is Jacob actually. But, I do agree that she is sometimes blind to her characters. However, seeing as how they are vampires, and their instinct is to kill, it is common for their natural instincts to seap through their composure when it comes to trying to act human. And, no where in Eclipse do they say "killing is fun". o at least, not that I can remember.

It's true, they don't directly say it. But they do say at points, "I'm gonna miss out on all the fun". But I know what tu mean. It's good that they don't kill humans, though I wish they'd feel just a tad más grief after they kill an animal, kind of like the Native Americans who would thank the animal's spirit after they killed it (of course the Cullens wouldn't have to go THAT far, lol).

I'm going to resist the temptation to make a goofy anti joke about the Cullen's souls, lol.

I'd say yes. I think when judging something like that it helps to take what tu feel would be the author's intent into account, as Stephenie Meyer is (I believe) fairly religious I can't see her escritura a main character without a soul, so I think it was probably her intention for readers to believe the Twilight vamps have souls and Edward's belief he doesn't is simply a result of his personality issues.
While I'm personally not religious, lets assume for the sake of discussion that there definitely is an afterlife in the Twilight world (I just realised that might sound like I'm implying spirituality/the afterlife is definitely non existant in real life o something, not my intent) if afterlife, souls and damnation are an issue there I can't see a creature that has shown itself capable of overcoming inherantly violent impulses, controling it's actions and experiencing emotions being damned straight off the bat just because of what it is.

A fan, o even a más experienced reader of the libros (I've only fully read the first, my knowledge of the others is the plot points and some passages) would probably know better, but I think the readers are supposed to believe the Cullen's have souls.

Look- i don't want to sound like one of those picky scientific people (see-i can't even spell it!), but i can't get over the fact the Cullens are fictional characters (and not even believable ones) SO OF COURSE THEY DON'T HAVE A SOUL... o a heart... o a brain... o anything really

Well, obviously the pregunta means in the story do people believe the character has one, since souls are a point brought up in the books. Like one could say 'Edward's a vampire', in real life neither the character nor vampiros exist, but it still makes sense to say he is one, because he is in the books. There isn't a single point in the libros tu can talk about if you're just going to say 'well it's not real' like here we've spent a fair bit of time debating the relationship, tu could say 'well there isn't a relationship to debate, they don't exist so they can't possibly interact'. I'm not trying to be rude, just wanted to point out that what tu dicho wasn't 'picky and scientific' because it's not science to not debate a point just because the characters you're debating are fictional.

Because I am a Team Edward this would sound biased.
I think Yes and this why :In most religions I have studied (especially Catholicism) God has been shown to have forgiven those who do well in this world. He forgives those that try to redeem themselves.
Edward has spent a century struggling to be good and if tu look at Twilight in a certain way, it almost feels like Bella was a task to see whether he could control temptation and if he did Bella was he his reward! Okay that last point is kind of the subject but that's what I think :)

That didn't sound very biased-because-youre-a-fan to me. That actually sounds like a pretty good argument, considering Meyer's religion.

Thanks :) Stephenie Meyer doesn't really follow her religion that much :S

well seriously the cullens are the only vampire I know that have a soul
here are some reasons why:

1- they dont drink human blood (they respect the human being)

2- they are always kind even to their enemies

etc...

so u see how they are kind? and they cannot be damned!!

tu did see what Aro dicho when bella tried to sacrifice herself for edward: "you would give away your life for someone like us, a souless monster"
then bella replied: "you dont know anything about a soul!"

so vampiros like the volturi dont know anything about a pure kind soul

and bella told carlisle: "Carlisle tu cannot be damned"

so see those kind vampiros (cullens) are way different than evil vampiros

they should be treated nicely!!

<3 jacob and edward and bella too <3

I don't think they have souls o that they are damned, because I don't believe in souls, and am an atheist :)

But even if heaven/hell did exist, and they didn't have souls, they couldn't be damned, because it's the soul that goes to hell in the first place! ^_^
