Why is "Twilight" a más divisive and violent trend than other teen fads?

When it comes to why antis are so annoyed por it (aside from the annoyance simply bred por severe overexposure) I think it's because there has never been such a popular fad with such arguably damaging themes. Obviously it's all a matter of opinion, but the glamorisation of abusive relationships and the sexism all aimed at a vulnerable age young enough to be influenced por it is something I have never seen on such a scale. I personally get annoyed por it because I worry for it's fans, and about what kind of message regarding themselves and their partners young women are being dado and happily eating up. When someone simply enjoys the story but is in no way influenced por it I have no issue with Twilight, but when there are hordes of girls wishing for a man who will watch them sleep before they even date, who will tell them what to do, who will destroy their car to prevent them from seeing other men it makes my skin crawl. There are just so many things in the libros I feel send poor messages to young women, and seeing those young women happily regard it as the ideal is both sad and scary to me.

As for fans, I've dicho before I think some fans feel such devotion because many identify themselves as being plain and unpopular 'just like Bella' so not only does the idea of someone just like them going to a town, without any effort becoming popular and immediately having super powered amor Gods falling for them appeal in a great way, but there's also the fact that joining the Twilight community and obsessing with the others offers those apparently unpopular girls widespread social acceptance for the first time. When antis attack the series taking it personally becomes easier because it's not just their favourite book being attacked, to some of them it's both their fantasía and their first welcoming community under attack. I wouldn't say that's true of all fans at all, but based on personal experience that's my guess for the más fanatic of them.

It's a vicious circle, because the más obsessed the core fanbase becomes the más daunting and annoying it becomes to antis, and when antis get más annoyed por it a certain type of the fans seem to cling even tighter to it and become más blindly loyal (Not to imply anyone who loves the series is just blindly loyal, just some of the más fanatic of the core fanbase seem to get that way in the face of any criticism).

Because young girls fantasise a man who wants to look at them in their room and loves the mystery of a vampire who stays in their young form forever.... cougars!

I honestly think that its because the are neglected and need amor from a silent stalker!

Because Stephenie Myers has a system to control the minds of many people...she waves her wicked sparkly-vampire spell and BOOM, many innocent people are all of a sudden moronic-twi-hards.
Hahahaha, if that was true, then well that's all the answer tu need, but I think the idea, of irrevocable and unconditional love, really makes a lot of teens hearts melt and fall into a amor story. Many people can deny that they hat fairy tale, amor stories about way too stalker-ish (and unhealthy) love, but then they say they amor Twilight, which makes them hypocrites. For me, Twilight is something that I have had a dreadful experience with, and so I can't even get myself to feel even a bit of liking for it. People sometimes need that kind of amor in their life, which, I might think it is the dumbest thing in the world, but who am I to judge, and so Twilight offers them something which they can easily relate to. Was that a decent answer, hmmm..
if that wasn't anyway good, then all I can say is that Twi-hards might have been banged on the head if they were a kid, atleast the rude ones were...

I think anterior fads weren't so bad because our society wasn't so violent & sexual. I'll use your example of Titanic. That came out in the early 90's, and if tu watch 90's TV shows, they were más subtle in their sexuality and the violence wasn't as extreme.

I watched the series finaly of Monk today (all 2 hours of it) and was surprised to see someone getting hit por a train on screen. And then tu have Miley dancing around stage half naked. Nuff said.

I could be wrong, but I like some of the 90's shows and do watch them, and it looks like our society got a lot más violent and sexual over the last 20 years.

I want to give a great answer to this, but I can't. I wonder the same things. Like, when I was a kid, I'm talking about 9, 10 years old, most of música was... kid-friendly. There were loads of bands that kids loved, and were perfect for kids to love. They were cheesey, they were clean. And música from decades ago, clean. Now... what the hell can I say about now? música is all sex sex sex... how did that happen? It seemed to suddenly shift that way around 2002 o 2003... and since then, everything seems so sex-obsessed. I know I sound like I'm rambling off-topic, but... I feel like society has just turned a bit crazy in the last few years... everything is so intense now... I have no idea how it happened. Maybe people just get más wild as the years go by?... That's my theory. Look at 20, 30 years ago... now look at today!...

I have noticed to, that both haters and fans take their passions way too far when it comes to this book, but why I get so angry is because I do see the harmful messages in this book and when I try to point out to a Twi-hard why I don't like the book and even read some of the lines from the book to prove my point, I find it to get as frusterating as beating a brick muro with a small hammer, nothing is getting through. I want to explain myself and try to help them see the problems. Not because I want them to hate the book, but because I just don't want them going out trying to find someone like Edward. Cause in the real world, finding someone like Edward is very simple and it's dangerous. It's not hard to find an abusive, stalking, pedophile. I want my friends to be seguro and open their eyes. I used to be obssessed with finding someone like Edward and I paid for it. It just makes me angry when I think about the tons of girls that will have to pay the same price I did if not higher because of Edward's character being glorified like he is. That's like glorifying Ted Bundy o John Wayne Gacey. These people are the lowest of the low, but yet trying to get that through a Twi-hards head, it's as sensless as beating pavement with house hold hammer and it can easily anger anyone who tries. Okay...I'm done rambling. I think I just told tu why Twihaters can get violent, but I don't think I thouched on Twi-hards. My only guess for them...Kathy Bates from Misery...that's all I got. People that just can't tell fact from fiction. They've over identified themselves so much with these fictional characters that thay've began to take all critisim as a personal attack almost believing that they themselves either are the characters being talked about o they have some sort of false sense of loality to them...that's my theory anyway. These ppl are so insecure that they've used these characters to fill the void in their lives.

In elementary school, I lost a lot of friends because I wasn't into the spice girls. It wasn't because my friends disowned me because I didn't like them, the way Twilight has caused rifts in relationships. However, at parties and school and wherever, the spice girls were literally all they would want to talk about so we eventually drifted apart and I found friends I could relate to better. I just now realized that this is a tamer version of the Twilight effect, but más unconscious and unintentional. I think it kind of helps me understand it better por putting into the perspective of a spectrum, but I still have no sympathy for twifans who are outright hateful and vicious towards those who disagree with them.
