Is it true that at the end of Breaking Dawn, Edward figured out how to read Bella's mind?

That one way o another maybe in the last chapter of Breaking Dawn, after what was supposed to be the big fight, when they were alone in their cabina he somehow figured this out. Does anyone know? o can tu check it? Because i think that would mean Bella doesn't really have the shield, unless it was a different way Edward figured out like lectura her actions. I saw it in an articulo here and now I'm just so curious about what they meant.
