‘Blindspot’ babe has ‘had about enough’ of sexy hot girl roles
Jaimie Alexander is hitting a pingpong ball — or rather, trying to hit a pingpong ball — to her fiancé, “Twilight” star Peter Facinelli. She whacks the ball with the paddle and misses the table by a good 6 inches. Peter grabs the bouncing ball and lobs it back to her. She hits it into the net.
“Oh, come on,” Alexander says to herself, laughing.
“Babe, have we not played pingpong together before?” he jokes, pulling her in for a hug.
Although pingpong may not be her strong suit, it’s one of the few physical skills Alexander, 31, hasn’t yet mastered. One of Hollywood’s go-to female action stars, she’s shown off her formidable athletic prowess in a slew of high-octane movies, like “The Last Stand,” where she played rough alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the “Thor” franchise, fighting as a warrior goddess opposite a hammer-wielding Chris Hemsworth.

On Sept. 21, she’ll embark on her biggest career feat yet: starring in NBC’s “Blindspot.” The heavily hyped, hotly anticipated show focuses on Jane Doe, an ass-kicking amnesiac covered in tattoos who emerges mysteriously from a duffel bag in Times Square.
“It’s the hardest job I’ve ever had, for sure,” Alexander admits, curled up on a couch in a Midtown loft. “But it’s so worth it. These types of characters don’t come along that often for females, so I jumped at it when I read the script.”
As a coveted leading lady, she had several offers last pilot season — but chose carefully. “I read a lot of scripts and they would start OK, and then the females were weak,” she says, shifting her lithe legs underneath her black trapeze-style dress. “Not vulnerable — vulnerable is good — but weakly written. It’s hard to put into words the feeling I get when I read scripts that dumb down women. When they start with a great premise, and then she ends up being the trophy or the sexy hot girl with big boobs. I’ve had about enough. This role is what I’ve been waiting for my entire career.”
Raised in Grapevine, Texas, Alexander has four brothers and went through a tomboy streak; she started the girl’s wrestling team in high school. “I was a punk, but I was also sweet. If I was making a sandwich and one of my brothers came in, I would give him the sandwich, but I’m not sure if that’s because I was worried they were gonna beat me up, or because I was nice,” she adds with a laugh.
Her first audition was to be her high school’s mascot, a bronco. “I had to get into this horse outfit, and I did a weird dance to Louis Armstrong’s ‘A Kiss To Build a Dream On.’ But then I got suspended for getting into a fight. Actually, I was defending someone. But that was the end of that.”
After high school, Alexander moved to LA, where she took “baby steps” in commercials and TV guest spots before breaking out in 2006 in the ABC Family hit “Kyle XY,” playing the supernaturally powered Jessi.

And she’s continued her self-empowered streak in Hollywood — which she says can be “sexist,” telling People that she once knocked out a producer who tried to untie her bathing suit at a work party. “He was really short — I twisted around and my elbow caught his eye and busted it up,” she told the magazine.
Her “Blindspot” fight sequences can also be “extremely violent — I can’t believe the network is going to put some of it on television,” she tells Alexa. So she’s working harder than ever, training with Navy SEALs and Ky Furneaux, her stunt double of 10 years.
“I don’t want people going, ‘That’s so fake, it’s just an actress running around with a gun,’ ” she says.
Jane’s tattoos alone take 7 ½ hours to apply, meaning that she often has a 4 a.m. call time. In real life, Alexander has nine tattoos, including the Tennessee Williams quote “A prayer for the wild at heart kept in cages,” her four brothers’ initials, and the letters “ES,” which she explains with a smile. “ ‘ES’ means ‘elephant shoe,’ which, if you mouth it, looks like you’re saying ‘I love you.’ As a kid I used to do that all the time, and I still do. It reminds me to be childlike.”

Keeping it light and goofy are priorities for the star, from her time on set (“I’m never in character unless the camera’s rolling. I can literally bawl my eyes out and then be laughing between takes”) to her date nights with Peter, who proposed — on top of the Empire State Building, no less — this past March.
“It was one of those moments when I didn’t think he was serious,” she recalls, “so I started laughing at him. Then he was gonna get down on one knee, but his pants were too tight because they were new, and that’s what I loved about it — it was funny and fun.
“But that’s literally him. He’s the kindest, most romantic person I’ve ever met in my life. He grew up with three sisters and he has three daughters. He truly respects women.”

When they got home from the proposal, Peter’s daughters, Lola, Luca and Fiona (with ex Jennie Garth), were also waiting to ask Alexander. “It was so sweet, and they were so excited, and that made it OK for me to say yes. I wouldn’t have said yes otherwise. They come first.”
As for wanting more kids, Jaimie shakes her head. “Actually, I don’t. I’m super close with the girls, and they’re enough for me. They’re so awesome. They fulfill such a large part of me that I did not know would be possible in my life. It’s been quite a journey. I wouldn’t say no to maybe in the future adopting a child . . . But I just got Peter a puppy.”
She whips out her phone to share a photo of Etta, a tiny dog that could be mistaken for a stuffed animal. “Ridiculous, right?” she asks. “She doesn’t look real.”
The couple have tossed around wedding ideas, but nothing has been solidified yet. “We’re both so busy. He’s doing ‘Supergirl’ right now, and movies, and it’s one of those things where we don’t want to just get it done, we want to have a good time.”

With the new show, the new puppy and wedding plans looming, Alexander has mastered the art of the daily juggle. Which is why, when it comes to fashion, she prefers to keep her outfits simple.
“I like clean lines, architecture, one color. If it’s multicolored it has to be multi all over the place. I don’t like big bows or any of that stuff. Although I am becoming a bit more adventurous with color.” Her favorite designers include Armani Prive, Rick Owens and her friend Greg Lauren, and one of her favorite recent looks was a sheer black cutout Azzaro dress that earned her more press than anything else she’d ever worn.
“I didn’t realize the attention I’d get, so that taught me a lesson in a good way,” she says. “I usually like to look androgynous, so I do a lot of suits or pants with a men’s tailored jacket, but that dress helped me embrace my shape and my femininity. I turned on my computer and TV and I was all over the place. I was like, ‘Holy crap — I didn’t expect that.’ ”
As for selecting a wedding date, Alexander shares that she and her groom-to-be have yet to solidify plans for their wedding.Photo: Joshua Jordan/Artpix Creative (2)
