I love the disney version I hate the original it stinks on ice because the witch cuts out the mermaids tounge, there's no villian in the book, and the mermaid dies it looks like disney can even make a horrible story into a wonderful movie and it's my all time favorite movie not just disney but I mean my all time favorite

I like both but I lean toward more of the Disney version. The Disney version is a fun story for everybody. It also proved that no matter what happens, everything works out. In the HCA version, I felt that the tragic ending could have been prevented if the prince fell for her or if the grandmother and sisters figured out a better way to save the little mermaid. I understand the themes of sacrifice, but there was no explanation as to why the mermaid had to have her tongue cut. Or why the prince decides to marry the temple girl instead of the mermaid.

I don't like Hans Christian Andersen's little mermaid doesn't get the prince. The prince marries another girl and he doesn't know that the little mermaid is the real one who saves his life first.

the disney version is much better because she gets her prince, and she doesnt die! i mean the Hans Christian Anderson version was a bit dark, i didnt like how she didnt get her prince after everything she risked to try:/

I thought that in the book, the mermaid wasn't named Ariel.

I cried my eyes out when I watched this anime version of The Hans Christian Anderson tale and was hugging my Ariel dolls because I didn't want them to go through that pain.. though now that I am older it is a good tale I do prefer it when she turns into a spiritual being/eternal soul instead of just dieing with a broken heart :(

Disney version. Only because Eric wasn't really nice in the original at all. If I have to read the original one, I'd go with the one where Ariel turns into a daughter of air and gets her eternal soul, rather than just dieing with a broken heart.
