I don't think she'd make a good Disney Princess

Direct-to-video sequels go first in my book.

1-She's from a sequel.
2-She's too young.
3-Nothing to do with royalty.
4-I'm not sure she fell in love with Peter... or Peter with her.

I agree with Tygers_Eye and BraBrief, no direct to DVD sequels.

She's not the main character, not even a little bit. I mean, I know the story couldn't have really happened without her, but still.....
Or Ting-Ting, Mei and Sui. Three in one?? :P

She is from a sequel, not a princess and Wendy is not one.

she's a selfish rude little brat who is a terrible role model and looks wise she wouldnt fit in at all anyway, their all like 5 feet taller! lol

none of the animal characters would work, but they'd still be better than Esmeralda in terms of being role models, and she isn't a princess either (which is why Mulan in the franchise doesn't work either but she's a better heroine though).
