It shows Cinderella grew as a character

Because it's her original character. Even though the idea of a 'strong woman' has changed drastically since her creation, she still had her own character that was very representative of the role of a woman in 1950.

The original Cinderella was a realistic character, who displayed a very realistic kind of strength. That made her admirable. The new one sets impossible standarts and doesn't feel realistic at all.
Plus, it's not true that Cinderella sits around and does nothing. She goes to the ball herself, and if she hadn't be such a friendly person, neither the fairy godmother nor the mice nor all the other animals would have helped her reaching her goal.

^Exactly what I was thinking. If she had taken things into her own hands from the beginning, maybe she wouldn't have gotten her prince. It's better that she was kind and respectful. This way, it also means that she and Prince Charming were meant to come together.

Well thats the type of illusion people want to see but in cinderella 3 we can see that there is no fairygodmother to solve all ur problem and that u have to do ur thing by your own if u want to reach ur goal... so basically if u say that u prefer a cinderella weak than a cinderella strong it means u can<t not see the reality in life guys.

^Well, it's not good to sit around and wait for something to happen with your life, but the reason I dislike Jasmine so much is because she is brutal in her attempts to get what she wants. And, in reality, that will not get you anywhere, either. You need a happy balance. I think Cinderella is the princess that exemplified that.

Also, liking a character the way she was originally created doesn't mean in any way that any of us believe that a woman is or should be 'weak.' You asked how we best like Cinderella and we told you. I personally am a strong feminist (just ask anybody on this site), but I still like Cinderella the way she was in 1950 because it's not fair to give her a 2010 makeover and change the character entirely.

I like both ideas, really -- actually, if you put them together, it does say volumes about how much Cinderella grows as a character. :) Besides, I don't think 1950s Cinderella is *entirely* passive -- the problem isn't that she's passive, the problem is that she's put in a situation where there's (at least at the time) fuck all that she can do about it. That's definitely what's the most heartbreaking about it -- and terrifying. She mostly works within her control in order to overcome it -- the mice, Bruno, etc.
