This has really been asked thousands times before and I feel like I already wrote about two lengthy posts on why I consider Belle to be overrated, that's why not going to repeat myself, just going to note that while Ariel or Rapunzel have plenty of lovers that are, however, being balanced out by a pretty lage number of haters, most reviews regarding Belle here on fanpop and all over the internet are generally positive. I can understand it in a way considering that she has little to no flaws but due to that she also lacks any characterization and faces no emotional struggles throughout the movie whatsoever, that's why I find the amount of love she gets slightly undeserved.

Belle, I kind of understand why she's so popular, I mean she's a great role model, doesn't judge others by looks, and feels like an outcast, and many people can relate to that.

But Ariel on the other hand, has eveything, and is still not satisfied with what she has. She acts like a 10 year old in my opinion, more than a 16 year old. I'm 16 myself and my friends and eveyone I know are not that immature. Her whole movie she was basically just saying "I want this, I want that" It was always about her! She's 16, a princess, has a family and friends who love her, and she leaves all that, for a guy she saw once! Sure people think that "Oh she's 16 she's at age to just live her life" but she could at least not run away just because her dad tells her not to do something ! (which was to protect her btw). She could just try to work things out without running away like a child. That's why, honestly, I prefer hans christian andersen's version of The Little Mermaid. But yeah, I don't think she deserves the love she gets.

Ariel and Punz have haters to balance them out, plus they're very human characters. Unlike MISS FREAKING PERFECT. I will NEVER understand why everyone loves her so much. If people don't like Belle, they can barely even speak up about it though.

Belle is NOT perfect to me. She is stubborn, judges at first, and looks down on the "little people" in her "poor provincial town."

BelleAnastasia I said MOST people give Belle generally positive reviews and her haters DEFINITELY do not balance out the love she gets from her fans, unlike Ariel who gets bashing in pretty much every pick for all the same reasons. It's not a pick about a least favourite princess (in that case I would have chosen Snow White), but about the most overrated and I don't see the point in arguing that Belle is incredibly overrated and rarely gets any criticism *shrug*

Her movie went VERY high. She even won the award for the best disney princess. Yeah she beat Ariel AND Cinderella.

I'm sorry but are you SERIOUS, ribon95? Ariel wasn't allowed to do the one thing she loved most, which was go to land/have anything to do with land. She wasn't even allowed to go to the surface and LOOK at the land and being even a small part of human life led her dad to destroy almost all her possessions. She didn't have everything, did you even watch the movie.

Belle has everything. She lives in a village that might think she's a bit odd and laugh at her dad BUT THEY ALL THINK SHE'S HOT AS FUCK AND GIVE HER FREE SHIT. The most dashing man in town, who is so dashing he has a trailing fan club of groupies, wants nothing more than to claim her as his bride. Everyone says hello to her. She complains about wanting adventure when she's pretty much the only princess that *could* go get an adventure. She was free to leave whenever she wanted and return if it didn't go her way BECAUSE HER HOME LIFE WAS PERFECT.

^^^ Exactly. Belle had the most freedom out of all the Disney princesses, not being sheltered, orressed or pressured like most of them and yet all she could do with her desire for adventure is whine about how much she wants it instead of going for it. I still like Belle for certain qualities but she definitely doens't live up to the awesomeness of most of other princesses that were much braver than her and actually had significant struggles to overcome on their way to happiness.

Wasn't this question asked already? Anyway, I think Rapunzel's the most overrated, I don't see what's so special about her, is it because she's CGI?

I think Belle's overrated too but understand why she's so loved, she's easily the best role model out of the white princesses.

The people who think Ariel's overrated are the exact reason why she's NOT overrated, she's so aggressively hated.

The three classic princesses (except for maybe Aurora) are sort of automatically overrated.

Mulan's alittle overrated too, she's basically a tool used to bash the other princesses and call them anti-feminist.

And Jasmine gets a bit of undeserved praise as well.

I think all the princesses can be considered overrated, except for Tiana and Pocahontas.

Actually Ariel was allowed to do whatever she wants underwater. Everybody adored her there. She was her father's favorite. And the only reason she was not allowed to go on land was the fact that her mom was killed by humans and her father wanted to protect her. So she HAD a perfect life, only she was too spoiled and selfish and stupid to appreciate it.

Belle on the other hand obviously is a lot more mature and understands that she can't always get what she wants. She chooses to stay and take care of her father and give him support, instead of running away and chasing something.

This is one of the main reasons why I love Belle and don't like Ariel that much. Belle values what she has and values her family and friends. Ariel doesn't care about her father, sisters and friends. They mean nothing to her. All she cares about is herself, and her own stupid wishes.

@Straggy Yes I am serious. LOL Please! Do you know WHY she wasn't allowed? Ok, well, her mother was killed by humans, and in general humans are dangerous! Humans eat fish! Her species! She had everything! She had friends, a family who loved her! Everyone adored her! Her father told her specifically she couldn't go on land and she completely disobeyed him! AND it wasn't the first time she'd done that! I'm not saying Triton was right to destroy all of her stuff but running away and making a contract with Ursula? Please! She acted like a spoiled child! Well, you know, really, being thought of as weird, odd, is real perfection. Wow. And having people make fun of the ones you love, yeah perfection right there.

It's not having too many fans or anything. It's not deserving the love she gets. And Ariel doesn't deserve it because she's a very bad character. That's why, in my opinion she is very overrated. Belle. OMFG, this chick has SO overrated! The only reason people think she's 'odd' is because of her father. Besides that, there is nothing, and i mean NOTHING wrong with her! She takes Miss Perfect to a whole new level! NO FLAWS! AT ALL! Unless you count Stockholm Syndrome, which is debatable...But that's not the point! She makes no major mistakes! Isn't the whole point of a fairy tale to teach a lesson?!? All her 'lesson' teaches is that it's okay to trust your captor if you think you can CHANGE him! That kind of attitude is not going to fly in the real world! And to be perfect?!? Good luck trying that!Just because her movie was a ground-breaking success does not mean she is the idol that EVERYONE has to worship. I seriously don't hate Belle; it's just the staggering amount of fangirl/boys that disturb me! Which I don't get WHY are so obsessed with her in the first place! It's not AT ALL like the Ariel fangirls/boys, who actually have a reason to fangirl/boy (geez, there needs to be a unisex 'fan' term!) over them, as they actually HAVE a personally besides being perfect! Ariel has flaws, which makes her more relatable. No one in her family understood why she liked the human world, and when her father found out, he just exploded! Yes, I understand the issue about Athena, but what about the show! Triton helped SAVE Hans Christian Anderson! If he's not considered human, then I don't know what is! Ariel was also heartbroken and confused after Triton destroyed all of her possessions of the human world, so of COURSE she wasn't really thinking when offered the chance to be human. She had flaws, and Ursula knew how to exploit them. Simple as that.
