Plus the fact that '666' isn't really a number of the beast IIRC, it's just that the symbol looked like a triangle of sixes.

I was watching the discovery channel and they said the devil's number isn't really 666? I'm confused

This also implies that humans are evil; read the rest of the passage: "The Beast out of the Earth" and you'll see that The Beast is evil.

Ah fair enough, I was always of the idea that 666 was meant to be a symbol not the actual number, learn something new every day :)

I think that the number is just a symbol. I don't think it is used to cast spells on people, send them to hell, turn them evil, or anything like that. I do however think that the use of the symbol is used for the representation of the Devil/Satan and all evil.

You know that recently there is a new theory that the translation from the original language of the bible to more modern languages messed up the number and the actual number is 616. It's been backed by quite a few people but i read this a while ago i'm not sure of the exact details.

The number itself isn't "wrong" in my opinion, but I get really superstitious whenever I see it, or if it comes up. It kind of scares me a bit (I know, that sounds a little sad).

it is in the Bible and it is the number of the devil. 6 is the number of man and 7 is the number of God or perfection. it is the symbol of the devil and should be used lightly. like someone who commented before me about the devil knows his time is up and he is just corrupting your minds is a true fact. bravo to whoever wrote it for speaking the truth. i believe it was clarklover. thanks for the good comment.

The actual number is 616. There was a mis translation and it all went from there.

I heard that 666 is a numeral translation of the Roman Emperor Nero who was the Ruling Tyrant at the time the book of Revelations is believe to have been written. Nero was reknown as a foolish ruler who made a past time of slaughtering early christians. It's believed that 666, the Number of the Beast, applied merely to Nero the Great Beast of that time, and that so does the entire book of Revelations.

This is the first I've heard of the new theoy about 616, hmm, wonder if it would still apply to Nero? Anyway it's just one of the things I heard:|

Whatever the number may be, whether 666 or 616, I find the usage kind of unnecessary to make a joke with. :/

The book of Revelations hardly has a single sentence that is not symbolic, so I am very reluctant to take it literally. I believe it's technically just a number that is used to express some kind of deeper meaning. I certainly don't think it's satanic or can do any harm.

I call that beast "The Beast Within".

I don't understand the number 666. Everybody says it's the devil's number, but then they seem to joke about it. I never understood what was so funny about it. If 666 really was the devil's number then people would talk about it with more caution and they wouldn't celebrate it. I wish people would just make up their minds - is it a bad number that is not to be trusted or not?

I've dialed 666 on my phone number several times and all I got was a busy signal. Either Satan's recruiting more souls or he wants me to stop calling and is now ignoring his phone. I laugh at the silliness of it.

The numbers may symbolize Satan, but the numbers themselves are harmless. No sense in having a panic attack over a stupid number. Like how some people would probably be scared of the numbers: 13, 4 and 9.

In the USA, 13 is considered unlucky. In Japan, their unlucky numbers are: 4 & 9. I know this for certain, because I know a few things about the culture.

A family member has 666 at the end of her phone number. I wouldn't want that number.
