We’re focusing on Disney’s traditionally animated features and excluding Pixar films, so don’t expect CGI cowboys or cars on this list.

Starting our list is the tale of a poor street thief who finds a genie and uses it to impress a princess. However, Aladdin also contends with the sultan’s diabolical advisor, Jafar. This film was a major milestone in an era known as “the Disney renaissance:” it combined the vocal talent of Robin Williams with some of the most memorable and outstanding music the studio ever produced.

This narrative is one of Disney’s many adaptations of older tales. The story focuses on a young mermaid princess named Ariel who is so curious about the human world and a prince named Eric, she makes a deal with a witch. This thrilling fantasy film ushered in the modern age of animation, and breathed life into the studio after its decline in the ‘80s.

This spectacle marked Mickey Mouse’s comeback after his star-power had faded. “Fantasia” consists of seven wondrous segments that ditch convention by merging the best of mass entertainment with the love of classical music.

“Bambi” is perhaps the saddest film on this list. The movie follows a young deer who must grow up in the wild after his mother is killed. He befriends other animals and finds love, but must eventually lead the other deer to safety when the humans return.

This adaptation of a seventeenth century tale focuses on the unjust oppression of a girl by her cruel stepmother. Luckily, Cinderella meets her fairy godmother, and she helps Cindy charm the prince. This film was a pivotal success for the studio and saved the studio from financial death after World War II.

Forget other attempts to recreate the work of Lewis Carroll; this is the greatest feature to take us through the looking glass. In addition to presenting the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts, it likewise showcases Disney’s largest array of songs, all of which are based on Carroll’s own verses and poems.

Another popular version of a classic tale is this remake of the 1883 story of a wooden puppet that is brought to life by a fairy. Pinocchio is unable to lie, and must prove himself brave, truthful and unselfish in order to become a real boy. This Disney standard is considered the most technically perfect film the studio ever produced.

This reboot of a French fairy tale from the 1700s was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. However, like Belle when she overlooked the exterior and grew to love the beast, we can also find it in our hearts to overlook Disney’s multiple attempts to cash in on this film’s success with many awful direct-to-video sequels. Whatever happened to “happily ever after?”

This epic narrative blends a beautiful story with fantastic songs, and includes computer animation without detracting from the hand-drawn work. It’s easy to see why this has remained the most successful traditionally animated film of all-time. Sadly, like many other movies on this list, “The Lion King” was cursed with several wretched follow-ups. Oh well, Hakuna Matata.

Number 1: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

The top spot on our list is dedicated to the picture that has been hailed as the greatest hand-drawn animated film in history. “Snow White” was Disney’s first full-length feature to be presented in color. It even won Walt Disney a Special Achievement Oscar, and today it continues to amaze audiences of all ages.

Of course, Disney Studios has created many more timeless favorites we wish we could include on this list. These range from “Lady and the Tramp,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Robin Hood,” to “Peter Pan,” “Dumbo” and the wildly amusing “The Sword in The Stone.” Which is your favorite?
