So you’re finally finished escritura it – the thing that has taken up all of your free time for the past two years (or more), the monkey on your back that wouldn’t let tu sleep, that had tu pulling out your pen and paper while on vacation with your family because The Idea came to you…
Well, you’re finished. tu want to print it out, slap on a title, and send it off.
Hold up, there partner! Pause, breathe, put the the manuscript down. Easy! There tu go….
What’s the big deal with a title?
Everything! It’s the first thing that a potential reader will see, the line that will either catch an editor’s attention o send it straight to the trash can. Just as your name represents you, the título of your book must be representative and catchy for your novel.
The good, the bad, and the ugly…
There are three distinct groups of titles.
The first is the good: the ones that catch attention, make a reader pick the book up, scan the front, turn it over and read the back, and then on to the checkout stand. Examples: Empress, Boiling Point, Crown of Thorns, Slaughterhouse-Five, A Feast for Crows.
The bad: have a hit and miss chance of grabbing a reader, with good enough cover art and some fantastic frases from the New York Times o Publisher’s Weekly, they may be read. They probably won’t be the first book a reader picks up, but it’s possible. Examples: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, War of the Gods, Secrets of Droon: The Hidden Stairs and the Magic Carpet, Maximum Ride: the ángel Experiment.
Then the ugly: get the response “how did this ever get onto this shelf?” “What was the editor/author thinking?” Examples: World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, The Adventures of tiburón Boy and Lava Girl…
So how do tu name it?
Unfortunately, while there is a plethora of baby-name libros flooding the market and internet, there is no “novel-name book” for authors. So, tu must be creative. Which really shouldn’t be that hard – hell, tu wrote a book, didn’t you?
Coming up with the name of your novel should be a process started at the same time tu write the firs paragraph, and honestly, will and should go on until you’re done with your final edit. It’s not an easy task – parents may argue and pine over it for nine months – why should your naming process be any different?
Following are several tips to help tu come up witht the ideal name for your “baby.” These are merely brainstorming techniques to hopefully help something click in that creative cavity tu have sitting between your shoulders:
Make a list
1. the names of your main characters
2. the major places in your book
3. any special talismans/objects that play a specific/important role (ie. The Sword of Shanara)
4. creatures, animals, aliens, names
Your plot
1. what is the point of your book?
2. is there a journey? To where? For why?
3. are tu escritura about a deeper meaning?
4. can tu tie in your book with current events o popular topics? (ie the Davinci Code)
5. what are your characters trying to do?
google is your best friend
1. buscar for pictures of a theme, character, creature, place, etc. that tu feel represents your book. You’ll come across some cool (and weird) things, and may give tu direction.
2. see what others escritura about similar topics are using for titles. Make sure your título isn’t too close to another’s.
3. get some más backstory on an item, relic, place, o animal in your story. Again, think muse…
Have fun
1. play up on words and items in your book (ie One of our newest libros due out siguiente summer is “Of Quills and Kings,” in which the villan is a demonic and sadistic hedgehog that overthrows the crown…)
2. be witty. tu are trying to grab science fiction/fantasy/horror/etc fans, not collegiate professors that enjoy spending all of their waking hours with their pet rock. Uh…
3. be original. tu want to stand out, but don’t be too off-beat that tu scare people away.

Tell me darling why tu cry,
Your tears stain the cama tu lay upon
Could it be tu miss the ones tu clung to so tight,
Nothing but a scared little fawn
The flames burnt away your past and future,
The hate did nothing but balance your grief
What now? That’s presents question,
Something so fragile like a branch being clung to por a leaf
Where is your mother little dove?
What happened to those loving others who filled your empty nest?
How many word of the world can tu rhyme with love?
Perhaps someday we will know with, proper care and rest
When pursuing dreams take chances and strive for nothing less than best
Then only then can tu be sure you’ve completed life’s most demanding quest
Your tears stain the cama tu lay upon
Could it be tu miss the ones tu clung to so tight,
Nothing but a scared little fawn
The flames burnt away your past and future,

Soar, soar
Soar beyond your wildest dreams.....
There's no limit
On how much tu can soar
No one can
Break your wings and kill you
Soar for the skies,
Don't let the feelin go
Just soar, soar like never before
No one's gonna stop you
From believin
There wasn't a time
When nobody could never soar
But there was a time
When people never believed
And tomorrow
Isn't the día to fall
And nobody's gonna push tu down
Oh almighty eagle
We're gonna be the powerful eagles
We're not gonna let anyone
Be our ruler,
We're not anyone's slave
Almighty eagle
Oh soar, soar towards the sky's height
And soar toward your dream
Let nothing keep tu away
Almighty eagle
Soar beyond your wildest dreams
And we're gonna fly tonight
Let nobody keep us down.
Life can be hard. Especially for me, Lily West, your almost-average 16-year-old girl. Most people think it's weird I'm bald. Others think I'm going to die. Then there's the occasional person who tries to take pity upon me. I'd rather they not, because some say it like I'm a helpless little tortuga on its back. Sometimes I wish I die already, and sometimes I wish that I was a completely different person. Yes, it's tough having cancer. I just wish that they would respect me for a person instead of a helpless little bug.
I stood por you,
Ever so proudly,
In the darkness of war,
Never betraying you,
Always por your side.
I protected you,
Never let tu down when
Things got rough,
I stood por you
Through día and night,
Summer and winter.
Stand por me now,
Be my loyal friend,
Never falter when the Fuhrer
Shoots his nasty gaze down at you.
Be strong,
My faithful friend.
Be strong,
And protect me from the evils
Of the world.
Be strong,
Never falter,
And always have courage.
Go now, my faithful friend.
Run free.
Ever so proudly,
In the darkness of war,
Never betraying you,
Always por your side.
I protected you,
Never let tu down when
Things got rough,
I stood por you
Through día and night,
Summer and winter.

Go now, my faithful friend.
Run free.
Like tu don't have another care
Fight till the end.
Fight till the end,
Cuz tu got all ya power.
Fight like a trooper.
You've got hope
You've got strength
You've got amor on ya side,
So fight now.
Just fight now.
Fight till the end,
You've got all these people
Rootin for ya,
Rootin for ya.
You'll win the fight,
You'll freakin survive,
And you'll be proud
Cuz tu fought till the end,
And won it,
And won it.
Fight till the end,
You'll win.
Everything inside ya
Is powerful.
So fight till the end.
Just fight till the end.
AND FIGHT IT!!!
