Funny enough, I didn't actually start with the first one myself, but I do think it is a good one to begin with (it was the first I played out of these three specifically, though).

I think OOT would give the best first impression to someone unfamiliar with the franchise, but I think if I were introducing someone to the series I'd rather give them an older one to start with, and have them move onto the more technologically advanced games later.

Might depend on their age and taste, though. If they aren't into '80s retro games, then I would be more likely to show them one of the later ones (and by later I mean OOT onwards)!

Also, out of the NES games, I'd probably only introduce them to the first one. I personally wasn't too fond of the second, and the gameplay's different to most of the series.
