Paul stared at me, clearly shocked, and I had slight misgivings, wondering if what I had dicho was considered very rude in the nineteen fifties. But I was desperate! I only had four days left to get Paul to meet John! I had to try something.
“Wales?” Paul repeated. “You want me to take tu on a fecha to Wales?”
“Well... I....” What to say? I could hardly tell him his future bandmate was going there.... “I thought it would be nice,” I improvised. “I never really travel anywhere.” That was true. “And besides – ” on sudden inspiration – “I hear there are opportunities in Wales. Like música opportunities.” I hoped he didn’t ask for details. I had very little idea what a música opportunity in the nineteen fifties would look like. How did música get discovered before the internet?
Paul grinned a little. “Music opportunities? Do tu wanna be a rock star, too?”
I shook my head. “I just want to watch them. And I thought maybe you'd like them....” If Paul and John ended up taking the same opportunity, maybe they could meet that way. Of course, if they took any música opportunities in Wales the rest of their history might go off course, and I didn’t know what would change if the Beatles became famous much sooner o later than they actually had....
“Of course I'd like that!” Paul told me. “But I don’t know about going all the way to Wales. My dad might not go for it.”
“How about just on the train?” If I could get Paul and John together on the train, it might not even matter if we couldn’t follow John all the way to Wales. I was still scared that John might do something in Wales that would change the future even more, but I tried not to think about that.
“Well...” I could see Paul was tempted. “I don’t suppose it would hurt to stay just a few hours....”
“Then you'll take me?” I dicho hopefully. “Are tu paying again?” I knew that sounded rude, but I wanted to be sure. I had no nineteen fifties money for train tickets.
Paul frowned. “Of course I’m paying. I’ll find the money for train tickets somewhere.”
“Don’t tu have enough?” I’d thought public transport cost practically nothing in the nineteen fifties.
Paul shook his head. “I’d ask me dad, but I don’t think he’ll be too happy about this....”
I bit my lip. “But I have no money either!”
“I’m not askin’ tu to pay!” dicho Paul, almost indignantly, I thought.
I tried to come up with something. “We could just – jump on the train and ride it, couldn’t we? No one would know.” I hoped I was right about this. How strict was security in this time?
Paul thought about this. “Yeah, we could. We’d be in a lot of trouble if they caught us...” His face división, split into this adorable grin. “Let’s do it!”
