"Everett, watch this!" Una leaped off the hiking trail and slid gracefully into the light snow covering the ground on either side, kicking up a light spray.
He laughed. "Careful there, Una."
"Aren't I always?" She grinned at him teasingly before tossing a handful of snow up in the air. "I amor this. It's so beautiful up here." She sighed. "My family never really took vacations like this."
"Well, we can take lots," Everett replied without thinking. Wait, what had he said?? He and Una were officially together now, yes, but they hadn't talked at all about how "serious" they were, whether they was expecting this to last long-term. Had he been too forward?
Fortunately, Una didn't seem to notice anything strange in what he'd said. "Look at the view between those trees! Just think what it'll look like when we reach the top."
"Are tu up for going too much higher?" Everett asked with some concern. "Are tu sure you're warm enough?"
Una was wearing her favourite fluffy purple chaqueta as usual, and Everett knew she had probably chosen it más because it was her most glamorous capa than because it was her most practical one.
Una laughed. "Of course, I'm fine! You're so sweet," she added with a playful little squeeze of his shoulders. "Besides, I didn't just bring the movie-star chaqueta to keep warm." She reached into her hiking sack and pulled out a sparkly thermos. "Hot chocolate!"
Everett grinned. "Good thought, Una. And I brought snacks from the cena, comedor - how about when we get to the parte superior, arriba of the mountain we have a picnic? Unless tu need a break before then."
Una shook her head and laughed. "I won't get tired."
So they continued on up the mountain trail, but they had only gotten a little farther when heavy dark clouds began to roll across the sky.
"That's funny." Everett frowned a little. "The forecast didn't say anything about snow for today!"
"It's not snowing," Una pointed out - but no sooner had she spoken than a sprinkle of dense, heavy flakes began to fall from the sky, coating Una's fluffy chaqueta like powdered sugar.
Everett felt a twinge of unease. "If it keeps snowing like this, we won't be able to make our way back down the mountain once the trail's covered. Especially if it gets dark."
Una gave a tiny pout at the thought of cutting their hike short, but then she brightened. "Okay... on to Plan B; I did bring some of our favourite cine along. We can go back to our hotel room and watch them, I guess."
"Yeah, I think we'd better." Trust Una to have the entertainment ready no matter what, Everett thought fondly. He loved that about her.
Everett reached for Una's hand in case she wanted to hold on to him and not get separated in the increasing snowfall. But then he remembered what he had dicho earlier. Of course he had held her hand before, but maybe it would look too adelante, hacia adelante of him if he implied they would be together long enough to take lots and lots of vacations together and then held her hand on the mountain directly afterwards. Maybe she wasn't ready to think about that sort of commitment. He pulled his hand away before she could notice it.
Una and Everett turned around to start heading back down the mountain.
He laughed. "Careful there, Una."
