One day, Jane and Paula once again proved how strong their friendship was. They took a trip to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. They played in the lake together. At one point, Jane went too far. She didn't know how to swim. She cried out, "Help! I can't swim!" Paula said, "Hold on, Jane! I'm coming!" Paula wasn't the best swimmer in the world, but her determination to help her best friend was very strong. Jane went under. It was dark, and she was sure it was the end. Just then, she felt a hand grab her and pull her to the surface. After she coughed up some water, she looked to see who saved her. It was Paula. Paula said, "It's all right, Jane. I got you." Jane said, "Thanks." Paula said, "Hang on. I'm going to take tu back to shore." The two friends made it back to shore, and Paula helped Jane dry off. Jane shivered and said, "I'm so cold." Paula said, "We'll go back to the camper." Back at the camper, Paula gave Jane a blanket to keep warm. Jane took a nap. When she woke up, she said, "Paula?" Paula replied, "Yes, Jane?" Jane said, "Thanks for saving my life." Paula said, "You're welcome. I'm glad you're all right." The two friends hugged. Pretty soon, the story became the talk of the school.

Paul's Special Friend
I first met Erin through Allie. From the sad look in her eyes, I knew that Erin needed a friend. As we got to know each other, she opened up about losing her best friend, Barry. She said, "My poor excuse of a grandfather shot Barry. I offered to get help for him, but he wouldn't let me leave him. I guess he didn't want to die alone." I hugged her and said, "I'm sorry. I know what pain you're going through. I lost my best friend, too. For the longest time, I blamed myself, because Alice and I were playing in the river. It was my insistence. I miss her sometimes, but I'm okay." Erin and I became really close as time passed. She was even passionate about música like I was. There was once when we got into a big argument, but our friendship was stronger, and we've remained best friends ever since. One day, when we were in high school, we put our heads together, and we decided to start a band. Of course, the challenge was finding other members.
