Lucasfilm has announced that their Han Solo spinoff starring Alden Ehrenreich will co-star Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian!
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller in a statement. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
As Star Wars fans know, Lando is a good friend of Han Solo. He was the owner of the Millennium Falcon before he lost it to Han.
The movie will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and opens in 2018.
“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with,” the directors said in July. “We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”
Meanwhile, the search is currently on for the movie’s female lead.

The good news, on the other hand, is that BBC America has a solution. Not since
has BBC America had a show that has such addictive, runaway-hit potential. We’ve seen episode 1 and it’s must watch. Let us repeat that…
Here’s why you need to tune in, set those DVRs, and make
I’m not talking heady pseudo-intellectualism here. I’m talking characters who are we are intrinsically drawn to within a scene of meeting them. The relationship between Todd Brontzman (Elijah Wood) and his sister Amanda (Hannah Marks) is what every drama and comedy wants to accomplish, and literally fails in a spectacular and cliched way.
The relationship between the Brontzmans is filled with layers of loyalty, hardship, and desperation wrapped around love and intensity. This is a brother and sister who don’t get wrapped up in the stupid stuff. They have each other’s backs, and would die for each other.
To say that our title character Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) is quirky, is like saying Sheldon from
is slightly awkward. Never mind moving to the beat of a different drummer, Dirk has a entire galactic orchestra whose beat only he can hear.
Dirk is a holistic detective, which means according to BBC America, that “he has strange psychic abilities that enable him to sense tangential connections. He’s turned these abilities into his new profession: that of a ‘holistic detective,’ a term that reflects his belief in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things.”
Dirk can say something touchingly honest and human one minute, and the next moment he’s giving ambiguous orders about stray corgis and running from marauders in a heavy metal van. There are no dull moments with Dirk. He’s this odd combo of the 10th and 11th Doctor, with a little bit of Sherlock, rolled into something that is just simply, lovably Dirk.
Without giving away why law enforcement is even involved, let’s just say that there is an epic, ongoing turf war between the Seattle police force and the CIA. The Seattle detectives are Estevez (Neil Brown Jr.) and Zimmerfield (Richard Schiff), and their CIA nemesis are Colonel Scott Riggens (Miguel Sandoval) and Sergeant Hugo Friedkin (Dustin Milligan).
Fans, deservedly, have high expectations of Richard Schiff and Miguel Sandoval, as these two actors have impressive credits. No one is resting on their laurels here. Schiff and Sandoval as the “elder statesmen” officers are nothing short of comic gold as they deal with the lunacies of Todd and Dirk, not to mention their lackluster, respective partners.
is a series that you have to pay attention to. You’re going to want to pause, go back, and rewatch. It’s
on steroids. It will be the series everyone is tweeting about.
There is so much information, much of it visual, thrown at you in the first episode that you are going to start making lists trying to figure out how it all connects. It makes absolutely no sense, but it’s compelling, intriguing, and often hilarious.

is being adapted for television by Netflix and Canada’s CBC, and today we’re learning who’s been cast as Anne Shirley, Marilla Cuthbert, and Matthew Cuthbert.
Irish Canadian actress Amybeth McNulty, who is 14 years old, has been cast as lead character Anne Shirley. In a statement, showrunner Moira Walley-Beckett says, “Amybeth is a wonderful and sensitive actress who embodies all of Anne’s qualities. She’s soulful and inquisitive, mercurial and passionate. Her ability to convey pain and joy is breathtaking. Amybeth is Anne for a new generation.”
Anne is 11 years old at the beginning of the book series by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
A total of 1,889 girls were seen for the role of Anne, which speaks to the serious search producers took to find just the right girl for the role.
Also cast were R.H. Thomson, who’ll play Anne’s guardian Matthew, and Geraldine James, who’ll play his sister Marilla.
Writes Netflix via Deadline: “Anne is a coming-of-age story about an outsider who, against all odds and numerous challenges, fights for love and acceptance and her place in the world. The series centers on a young orphaned girl in the late 1890s who, after an abusive childhood spent in orphanages and the homes of strangers, is mistakenly sent to live with an aging sister and brother, Marilla and Matthew Cuthber, played by Jamels and Thomson.
“Over time, 13-year-old Anne will transform their lives and eventually the entire small town in which they live with her unique spirit, fierce intellect and brilliant imagination.”
Netflix and Canada’s CBC have the TV series booked for eight episodes, which are expected to air in 2017.
