There are little things I have enjoyed about each generation of My Little Pony. I have found that each of the generations have their similarities and differences, and here I will explain what it is I like most about every generation, and the impact they have had on my life.

Generation One
When I was born, G1 was already well into production. Lots of toys had been made, and the franchise already had its own animated films and a televisión series. As a kid, I owned a few poni, pony figures, the book "Lickety división, split and the Wood Sprites", a cassette tape containing songs about lots of the ponies, and every once in a while I would watch the animated episodes o films.

I have always loved animals, and I think that is what initially drew me in. The ponies were so cute and appealing, and I liked collecting them!

The caricaturas had a certain atmosphere about them. They were charming and whimsical, with a few dark moments too to add excitement. Looking back, I do believe that My Little poni, pony was the first "fantasy" themed franchise I got into. I have since then become a fan of the fantasía genre.

"My Little poni, pony Tales" was another series I sometimes watched. I didn't like the atmosphere as much as the original cartoon series at first, as it depicted the ponies as más human-like, but over time I grew to like it. I actually think that I appreciate this series más now than I did back when I was a kid. Now, I can see that it was written very well for its time and had some nice characters.

My best friend lived just across the calle to me and she collected ponies too. In fact, she had a lot más than I did! Whenever we went to each other's house, we would get all the ponies out and play games with them... leaving our poor mums to clean up the misceláneo astray plastic caballos around our rooms later!

Generation Two
This is a generation I heard very little about when it was around. In fact, I was convinced that My Little poni, pony had fallen off the face of the earth upon G1 ending! After doing some reseach on the series, I do recall seeing some G2 ponies in stores in the late '90s and perhaps around the time G3 began, but it was certainly something the media seemed to keep quiet about in my area.

The art style used for G2 packaging and other merchandise is gorgeous! The ponies are ironically not as "little" as they are in all the other generations; instead, they are más anatomically correct and have más details on their legs and hooves. Meanwhile, they have continued to be very cute. The art style used is also suitable for drawing the ponies in varied poses and they look very dynamic.

Generation Three
I was in secondary school por the time G3 came around. For some reason, I have a very clear memory of sitting at my escritorio in biology with the theme música stuck in my head, having seen a commercial for a playset before going to school that day! A funny thing to have remembered after all these years, but there tu go.

G3 was when I could really start relating to the characters. I would watch the specials when they came on TV (usually at Christmas) and there were times when I could see myself o other people I knew in the ponies. The situations the characters got themselves in and out of reminded me of things I o a friend had done before, and some of them had certain traits and mannerisms that reminded me of myself and other people too.

The toys during G3 were of very high quality. The G3 ponies resemble G1 más than G2 in terms of appearance, maybe due to their size and proportions. The details on their faces were so cute and the little corazón they each had on one hoof was a nice touch.

G3 also contains the Core 7, and also G3.5 (which overlapped each other too). The settings for these were slightly different from the rest of G3, but it gave the creators some opportunities for some new merchandise and cartoons. I personally like that Hasbro chose seven ponies to concentrate on, and they made those particular characters más interesting over time. G3.5 had both a visual style and atmosphere of its own to appeal to a specific audience, and I think that the two went well together.

Generation Four
Years hace during my DeviantART days, I watched Lauren Faust on there. One day, she came out with the question, "what do tu think of My Little Pony?" Seemed random, but okay! Shortly after, she began uploading her drawings of G1 ponies in her own style. Sometime after my life became pretty hectic as I graduated and joined the crazy media industry, and in mid 2011 I came across a picture on the internet that looked like a poni, pony drawn in Faust's style. Turned out it was Rarity, and the animator had been heavily involved in the creation of G4. While I was surprised that Hasbro had gone for her very different visual style, I was also curious to check out the new generation and the cartoon, "Friendship is Magic".

I connect with the six main ponies of this series in quite a personal way, as they specifically remind me of myself and my five friends from secondary school. Their personalities are generally very well-defined and their characters develop throughout the series. The fact that they are so much like my own little group of friends makes the cartoon extra fun for me.

My favourite collectible G4 merchandise is the blind bag series. The blind bag characters are great little collectibles because they come in a nice variety of poses (much like brushables of anterior generations), there are a range of blind bag waves that come with different visual themes (such as transparent, glittery and arco iris coloured), and they also include characters who are not even ponies! I really like them.

The cartoon is notable for conveying important life messages to kids, about how to treat others and being a good person in general. Lots of kids' TV shows do that. However, "Friendship is Magic" also explores feminism; a subject that a number of televisión shows have attempted to tackle, yet very few do so successfully. The feminist messages in G4 are about real life feminism, as opposed to the unrealistic portrayal of it on the majority of American sitcoms. Girls are taught that they are capable of achieving just as much as boys, as the mostrar portrays female characters with all kinds of careers and abilities. Meanwhile, boys are taught that there is no shame in femininity, as the male characters take on whatever hobbies they like too - and in Spike's case that includes cooking. The fact that this cartoon is lead por a number of female creators may contribute to this más accurate representation.

In General...
In every My Little poni, pony animated film and series, there are background characters who resemble actual figures released por Hasbro. I have always loved it when I've seen a poni, pony in a cartoon that I actually have the toy of.

There are all different types of ponies. You've got earth ponies, pegasus ponies, unicorns, flutter ponies, breezies, alicorns... all sorts! This is pretty great when it comes to wanting variation in the toys, but it's also cool to see all these types of ponies in the caricaturas too.

Well, there is probably a lot I have missed out, but I will leave it at that for now!

Thanks to Bonnie Zacherle, Hasbro, and everyone involved in the franchise. I shall continue to enjoy what G4 has to offer and look adelante, hacia adelante to whatever G5 may bring!
