i refuse to answer this question because there are some songs where i like the lyrics better, and some where the music is better

Me too. But the music is mostly more important for me.

The melody is like the physical attraction, the sex. and when you get to know the person, that's the lyrics. (Music and Lyrics)

Call me sentimental, but the lyrics are a language all their own. Whenever I hear a piece of music, there's always something in the lyrics that I can relate to my life. Granted, the music is important too, but without the lyrics, the song wouldn't speak.

and the voice of the singer. I agree that lyrics are important, but I care more about the sound of music. Maybe it's becouse I don't know english very well, but still listen to english songs.

They both have to be equal, but lyrics speak emotions and they have to make sense and not chessy they have to be captivating.

Hmmm...love both, but music is probably more important, because there are some lyric-less songs that I like more than some songs with lyrics, if you catch my meaning. Film scores, for instance, are much better than much of the music I hear today. Anyway...

I like all kinds of music really so that's not a problem to me. I'm not that picky about lyrics either though. As long as it isn't "I take you to the candy shop, I'll let you lick the lollipop" I'm pretty much good.

they both are important so it's hard... but i think the lyrics always reach out to me more, there are great songs where the music is amazing but the lyrics are just shallow and i to me those just arent that meaningful..

Really its not that big of a deal to me but i think the lyrics always make a song reach that 'awesome' label which is so rare but it has to have a good melody to or is going to be just like any other main stream song thats why i dont like bands like life house, OAR or cold play because there music always seems to have to same beat sometimes a little off but usually the same thing

The music is very important as well..BUT
the first thing I look for is the lyrics.....so I listen to Marilyn Manson....and Slipknot.
Every ONCE IN A WHILE it doesn't happen that way, when the lyrics are so wrong and I LIKE IT ANYWAY...Weird right? Like MJ's Man in The Mirror.....Bad tune, bad beat, bad music......but since the lyrics are great I loves it!
And some of Insane Clown Posses songs I like EVEN WHEN THE LYRICS ARE TERRIBLE!

THe lyrics make up the whole song....so yeah...but some good songs have terrible lyrics...but other than those exceptions the lyrics are better!

The music is important too, but I can't STAND songs about drugs and sex and stuff. I like songs that go deep and have true meaning, like Evanescence.

Unless it's some cheap song, the lyrics and the music are both difficult to write. Also, unless it's an acapella or an instrumental, both of them are equally important.

In my opinion, I think lyrics are more important. Lyrics are like their own magical language, expressing what can't be said in any other language, and touching other people's hearts. If the lyrics and the music are good, then you got a perfect song ^^

I have a habit of ignoring lyrics. I usually judge a piece of music based on the melody and chord patterns.

Though I find what often happens is, once I've grown to like a song for it's interesting melody and accompaniment, I will start taking in the lyrics more. But basically, if a song has clever lyrics but a boring and repetitive tune chances are I will never actually notice the lyrics at all. :P

It's often the music that really moves me. Anyone can write lyrics. It's the sound of the voice, from the person who sings the lyrics that moves me most. So in the end, it's the music that moves me.

Both are important components, obviously there are instrumentals that have no singing or lyrics, but for non-instrumental music, I find that in order to completely enjoy it, it really has to have both.

I don't exactly understand the lyrics when I listen to songs in Finnish, Spanish, Japanese, German, etc... but that doesn't make me like the song any less.

but if I really love the song from all my heart I would like the lyrics of the song better cause I think music is just the way to feed the real meaning of the song,plus there're good music but stupid lyrics and I don't mean the sex and drugs songs I mean the normal songs there're too many artists put stupid lyrics that doesn't mean anything to the song and for me that ruind everything and make me don't like the band or what ever so I guess.......

A mix of both really. Sometimes I the lyrics are what get me into the music. Which is the case with 'Same Love' and many symphonic metal songs. They have a story to tell and they have this medieval fantasy feeling to them that I like. They also help me with my story as the lyrics connect to my characters and it's inspiring, so I went with lyrics.

I prefer a song to have meaningful lyrics, if it doesn't, it better at least be catchy, and it better not have auto tune. Otherwise, it's crap.

extremely hard choice though, I view both as so important! But if the song was a style I don't like and it had good lyrics I wouldn't like the song.
