I might get hated for this, I have no idea. But there are the reasons why they should have happened:
1. Zuko and Katara had bonding time
2. Mai left Zuko until he was made firelord
3. Katara saved his life
4. Katara is más mature for Zuko than Aang is.
5. Zuko almost took his life for Katara
6. Katara hugged Zuko first
Explainations:
1. When Katara wanted to know who took her mother, Zuko offered to go along. Aang disagreed with her choice. He knew what it felt like to lose his mother. He helped her find the man. When Katara didn't sleep for the night, he woke up and took the place of flying Appa. He let Katara sleep. He wasn't selfish when he was before when he was still trying to capture Aang.
2. When Mai and Zuko broke up, Zuko went to Aang for help. Aang let him be with the gang. Katara, of course, disapproved of Zuko since he almost killed the gang. The last episode, Zuko was made Firelord, where all of us Zutara fans got disappointed, when Mai came back. Doesn't that say something? She only went to him AFTER he was annointed Firelord. Think about that. Katara liked Zuko before he was ever made it, he dicho he gave that up. She trusted him throughout that fight.
3./5. One of the last episodes, Zuko's sister, Azula, was trying to kill both her brother and Katara. When Azula shot a lightning bolt at Katara, Katara did not mover but Zuko did. He took the lightning bolt and had a burn there. When Zuko lied there, Azula kept attacking at Katara when she tried running to Zuko's side. She finally defeated Azula. Soon after she did, she went to Zuko's side, crying, as she tried healing him. Her hope were dropping when he was responding. When he did, she was crying with tears of happiness. Proof, she and Zuko did like o amor each other. But Zutara didn't happen. It would have but Nick changed it. They were actually going to have that kiss happen but they changed it so Mai and Zuko would be with each other. Stupid Nick.
4. Aang may be 112 years old but acts like a 12 año old. Katara matured más than he did. Zuko as well. Therefore, making an immature 112 año old and a 14-15 año old together? I think not.
6. Before the battle happened, and after Katara and Zuko had their bonding time, Katara got up. She frowned and all of a sudden hugged Zuko. Aang, standing aside, looked jealous.

When Katara was thrown down in that cave. Zuko came after. Katara told about her mother and Zuko understood her. They met. Katara was about to heal the wound on Zuko's face but got interuppted por Aang and the gang. We all saw Katara pause when she looked into Zuko's eyes, deeply. He looked back, making Zutara fans crazy. Another kiss scene would have happened if Nick was retarded.
There's the reasons. Go ahead and hate, I have my opinions. Zutara would have happened but Aang was the main character. He liked Katara. Personally, I like Toph and Aang together since they are younger. Katara and Zuko do like each other, tu could tell.
Though it's a cartoon, we don't need to fight over it.
