2015 Loudwire Music Festival, Day 3 Recap: Rob Zombie, Halestorm, All That Remains + More
The inaugural Loudwire Music Festival is in the books and oh what a weekend it was. With Rob Zombie and Halestorm closing out the final night, fans left the Grand Junction, Colo. Jam Ranch sufficiently rocked.
Zombie got things rolling with the traditional set opener “Teenage Nosferatu Pussy,” and things really kicked into gear with “Superbeast” and “Living Dead Girl.” Noticing there were seats up front, Zombie urged the crowd to toss them aside and soon a pit was formed at the front of the stage. Dipping into the covers catalog, Zombie rocked a little bit of James Brown’s “I Feel Good,” and did covers of the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop,” Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out” and Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re an American Band.” Ever the entertainer, Zombie hopped off stage and took a trip into the crowd as he mingled with fans while John 5 noodled away on a blistering guitar solo. And sending fans home happy, he ended the set with the classic track “Dragula.”
album, played one of the day’s top sets. Their performance included the hard-hitting Grammy winning “Love Bites (So Do I)” as the set opener, while tracks like “Freak Like Me” and “Apocalyptic” were greeted with great fervor. A highlight of their set was the Arejay Hale drum solo that included snippets of KISS’ “Rock and Roll All Nite,” AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” and Papa Roach’s “Last Resort.” Ending their set with “I Miss the Misery,” the song included a leaping Arejay Hale getting extra heaviness behind his beats, Joe Hottinger delivering a blistering solo and Lzzy Hale‘s primal scream to end it all.
Hinder, featuring new vocalist Marshal Dutton, got fans into their set with tracks both old and new. “Use Me” rocked the crowd, while audiences cheered on “Lips of an Angel.” And tracks like “Intoxicated” and “Hit the Ground” showed what they’re still creating solid rock tracks. All That Remains delivered one of the day’s more diverse sets, offering both heaviness on tracks like “No Knock” and the anthemic “Stand Up,” but also going more melodic on “What If I Was Nothing.”
The main stage opened with a pair of veteran rock bands as Hoobastank and Bobaflex got their chance to rock out. Bobaflex delivered a high energy set that was met with great energy by the crowd, while rock vets Hoobastank engaged in stage banter as they poked fun at audience members in the VIP section. They finished out their set with the well-received songs “The Reason” and “Crawling in the Dark.”
Meanwhile, on the Budweiser side stages, Menew got things going early, while main-stagers Bobaflex took advantage of the opportunity to play a second set later in the day on one of the side stages. Scarlet and the Harlots and Righteous Vendetta got the late afternoon and evening slots on the side stages and made sure to leave their mark with stellar sets as well.
