Chapter One: Truth
Kaylynn looked over at her boyfriend, Beck. She’d just dropped a huge bombshell. She was pregnant. They were teenagers. They’d only been together for about 6 months. And had fallen in love. They’d had sex…and she went to the doctor because she had the “flu”. She’d found out, that it wasn’t the flu, she made him his favorito! meal-Mashed Potatoes and maíz salsa and a filete with thick salsa over it as well. Oh, and an manzana, apple Pie with his favorito! ice cream, Nutshell maní, cacahuete butter. Then, she’d told him.
“Kaylynn, what are we going to do?” He asked as he looked at her, sadly. Beck was aiming to be an actor and Kaylynn had told him her secret of being a Baby doctor. She didn’t tell anyone her plans-just Beck. “Are we going to keep the baby?” He asked. He looked at the ceiling, unsure if he COULD keep a baby. He was in High School. The High School he went to, he could never be late, and had to do strange things for actuación classes, that sometimes took ALL night. He couldn’t have a baby now. And not here, in this city. There were people here that…he couldn’t deal with; with a baby. “I don’t want to keep it.” He muttered under his breath as he looked at his hands. His hands were big, and Kaylynn loved them, the way she could slip both her hands into them. The way to held onto her whenever they went through the city alone at night. She loved everything that had to do with Beck.
“I don’t want to either, Beck.” She dicho to him. She was in tears, after the way he had reacted. He’d lost it for a moment, and became a threat. “Beck…we…we….we can’t kill it either.” She said. He nodded at her and said, “Adoption.”
About a week later, Kaylynn was at school with her friends, Alana, Viviana, and Ellen. They were standing in the hall talking whenever, Alana suddenly brought up that her sister, Hailey used to have a baby. “What do tu mean used to?” Kaylynn asked. Kaylynn hadn’t told her friends about Beck and hers baby yet. Today Beck was going to take her to the doctors for the first appointment. They had their hearts set out on adoption. “Well, she gave the baby up for adoption.” Alana looked as Kaylynn nodded, urging her for more. “It was a couple months ago, I forgot to tell tu guys, but she dicho it was the biggest mistake she had ever made.” Kaylynn looked at her wrist watch. It was time for lunch. But the words, ‘Biggest mistake she had ever made’ stuck with her, until she met up with Beck.
Meanwhile, Beck was sitting with his friends, Trevor and Lucky eating lunch at mesa, tabla 14. They were alone, but the girls kept coming up and saying, ‘hi.’ Trevor, Lucky, and Beck were the most popular, cutest people on the football team. “So, man, I hear tu and Kaylynn are still going out.” Trevor said, stuffing a fry into his mouth. Beck looked up from his mystery macaroni and cheese, it was chunky and looked like someone had thrown up on…he couldn’t eat it-mainly because it looked way to much like Kaylynn’s puke after she ate a lot of crap. “Uh, yeah.” He said. “How is she?” Lucky asked, finally joining the conversation. “Fine.” Beck said, hoping to get out of this uncomfortable conversation. Trevor sighed and looked over at Lucky. “Well, did tu hear that, that girl, Casey is pregnant-she’s thinking about giving it up for adoption, but she doesn’t know because she says it would be the biggest mistake she will ever make!” Beck heard Ashley, the head cheerleader saying. Her friends snorted at the pregnancy thing.
That afternoon, Beck was in a haze. He’d thought about the baby and Kaylynn and he thought about how horrible it would feel after the baby was born, and he’s holding it, and people he doesn’t even know take it away from him. He looked at his wrists as he saw Kaylynn walking out of the school, pushing a strand of her beautiful blonde hair out of her face. God, he loved her…more than he loved his parents…more than he loved himself. She smiled at him, weakly as she looked over at her friends and waved goodbye. Then she ran towards his car. He got out and hugged her. “I-I-I can’t do this anymore.” She dicho looking at him with tears in her eyes. “We-we-have to k-k-k-keep it.” She stuttered and pressed her body to his. He kissed her cheek and nodded. “I amor you.” That was the first time he’d ever dicho that, to anyone.
