, A&E Network’s most-watched original drama series of all time, will be ending its run on the cable network after three seasons. In a surprising move, the network has opted not to renew the series for a fourth season. I hear Warner Horizon, the studio behind

will be shopping it immediately. “We would like to thank the phenomenal cast, crew and producers of

, along with our partners at Warner Horizon, for their tireless work on three seasons of quality dramatic storytelling,” A&E said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.”

In its second season, the series, based on Craig Johnson’s mystery novels, averaged nearly 6 million viewers, up 9% from Season 1.

This makes no sense. It’s a great show, with good numbers. What is going on here?

What that means is they learned their lesson from the Duck Dynasty fiasco and made up an excuse. The move makes no sense because the reason is bogus.

Longmire is the best western series in decades ,we had to wait a year to see season 2 and it was only 5 or6 episodes long just getting comfortable thinking it would go on for many seasons .I feel like boycotting A&E for not renewing it .Will it be out on DVD?

Hell on Wheels is way better, so Longmire isn’t the best in decades. However, I’m sad Longmire is going bye-bye… I hope somebody picks them up!

I like Hell on Wheels, but Longmire is a much better show. HOW has just become repetitive – Look, there’s a problem. Bohannon will shoot someone. Problem solved.

Watched that new show of his for all of five minutes and cried for the cancellation of The Glades. A&E programming people should be forced to watch marathons of those gosh-awful reality shows of theirs. They really stink! They need to change the name of the network to something like Redneck Network or Trash Network.

I just cant believe that the best show on TV is leaving. What is the matter with them. Their shows are now all that reality crap. The acting , the storyline, the scripting is the best. I am so sad that this is gone. I hope that someone with a brain picks it up and continues with the story. Their are actually people out here that care about the quality of shows. Long live Longmire

Me too pat, there are several shows I already watch on TNT & would be more than happy to watch Longmire there. That would give me NO reason to watch A&E anymore. Their loss.

Fine with me if it is on TNT, as long as it ends up somewhere. There were some episodes this season that were so intense (e.g., kidnapping of deputy & her husband) that I felt like I was at the movies, not just watching a TV show.

Very disappointed in this – hope it gets picked up elsewhere. I love this show – nice and steady with a terrific cast – slow burning show.

Sometimes networks make the stupidest decisions. Very good program with good acting. There is so little good programming left especially if you don’t like zombie crap. Hope it gets picked up by some other network soon!!!

What…..this is one of the best shows on A&E. We wait patiently for the next season to come on, every year for the past three years! A&E made the wrong move on this one. Get a new SVP in there that knows what they are doing. Get something in there. I follow Longmire wherever it goes. Guess we won’t be watching A&E anymore.

Yep I will watch it on what ever channel it is on. This past season was one of the best seasons of a scripted. It is right up there with Walking Dead and Sons. And Katee Sachoff was just incredible in the Episode 7.

This is ridiculous. It’s a well-done show that gets viewers to the channel. Who cares if it was from an outside production company? And why remake The Returned?

I thought there was a legal battle going on about the American version of The Returned? Anyway….this is a big mistake, hope someone else picks it up.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! It’s the highest rated drama ever on A&E and it has more viewers than a lot of much more expensive shows on the big networks. NBC and the CW would kill for a show with 4.6 million viewers. Hope another network like TNT picks up Longmire.

This show has great acting, excellent writing, and has thread a bit of Western mythology into the mix..characters are rich.. And A&E won’t be seeing me any time soon.. I don’t skew the ‘older’ demographics..I just like a show that is unique and engaging…what? so more ‘scripted’ reality shows can air?? Boy is A&E out of touch..keep looking for the mighty dollar revenue and see how many advertisers stick with you when ratings tank

I agree with you and everyone else. I am just sick. Longmire was in the top 25 and is counting cable and network. If you count the season finial with 3.7 million viewers, it jumps to 5.4 or 7 million who watched it up to 3 days later. Longmire posse Facebook site has the information on the numbers.

Did they cancel this excellent, popular show because it was… too good and appealed to a broad audience which included some older people? Insane! I hope it’s picked up elsewhere.

I do not know who they are getting to prove their numbers , because I do not know anyone that does not love ” Longmire ” PLEASE someone else pick up Longmire,… I do not need to watch A&E anyway .. !

This Deadline story is light on details, which is not good reporting. – Longmire lost ~40% of it’s 18-49 viewers this year, with its finale coming in at 0.6. That’s not good.

So the show is on the decline in terms of viewers, particularly the ones advertisers pay for.

I don’t know how expensive it is, but it is obviously a lot more expensive than reality TV show junk, so I’m guessing A&E felt they needed a higher number for the cost.

I hope, for its fans, Longmire gets picked up by another network (TNT seems like a solid option) but this didn’t come out of nowhere.

A&E put Longmire between reruns of Crimal Minds [which is down 72%]got that number from a article I just read. Did not advertise it, on other networks. A&E killed Longmire not the viewers. A few weeks ago Longmire was rated number 25 and that included cable and network shows. the season FINAL DREW 3.7 MILLION VIEWERS, BUT the viewers were still counted 3 days later and jumped to 5.4 or 5.7 million, better than some of the net work’s shows. Someone is bitter. For the record, most of the New Mexico crew have been working in this industry for decades and are just as acquainted with idiotic Hollywood types as anyone else. Probably more so since they seem even more ludicrous when they show up in our state.

Well like everything else that goes on in TV. They want shows like Naked and Afraid or some dumb ass reality shows probably. A&E is going down hill every year. Every time they get something that is worth watching some butt head screws it up.

OK done watching A&E. I was not pleased when The Glades was cancelled but cancelling Longmire is the coup de grâce to their programming decisions. I am officially an EX A&E fan – will not turn to the station regardless of what they are programming!

I only watched longmire on a+e i can delete that channel from my program guide now and hopefuly add where ever longmire goes hopefuly fx.This shows you that they want to control everything we watch they can make.
