HBO officially announces HBO Now and manzana, apple partnership with a new trailer! 

At the Apple Keynote event today, the new Game of Thrones trailer that fans have been waiting for made its grand debut!

The trailer was presented as part of the announcement of Apple’s partnership with HBO in bringing HBO Now to viewers on Apple devices this April.

HBO has confirmed that the standalone streaming service will launch in April in time for

and that for the first time, HBO subscriptions will be made available directly to Apple customers through HBO NOW.

The confirmation of easy availability of HBO is long-awaited, along with the now-confirmed pricing of $14.99 a month.

Some details about HBO Now, from the official press release:

Upon launch, customers can subscribe using the HBO NOW app on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, or directly on Apple TV for instant access. Users can purchase HBO NOW directly in-app for $14.99 a month. Upon registering, subscribers will also be able to watch at HBONOW.com. HBO will offer a 30 day introductory free trial period to new HBO NOW customers who sign up through Apple in April.

HBO continues to be in discussions with its existing network of distributors and new digital partners to offer HBO NOW. At launch, HBO NOW will be available on iOS devices and on PCs.

Yes! YEEESS!! So glad to see a new trailer. I think I might prefer this to the first one actually, mostly because I’m glad they have shown more Stannis and the Boltons… and this makes it look more intense than the first one.

Seven hells!!! So I guess this pretty much confirms Sansa storyline this year, the theories were correct indeed and I just love it!

It’s the 2016 calendar that will have a TWoW scene, not the 2015 one which has been out for months. But oddly, I can’t place this scene either from earlier in the books. Hmm.

Sansa is in the crypts of Winterfell. For those who predicted this, good job. For those who doubted us, your crow will be served momentarily.

My guess on the Sansa thing is that she is going to take over the role of Manderly and pretty much be the face of northern conspiracy. I dont think it will be revealed who she is until towards the end of the season. My guess is the Boltons will just think she is LFs niece Alayne.

Not much Dorne play. I have a feeling there will be a Dorne emphasis in another trailer closer to the season. This one was the big-splash, get-excited-again trailer, so it focused on stuff people will already know. Although there was a lot of the Faith in there, and I loved what I saw.

Well, well. Looks like Loras is really taking over some of Marg’s part in season 5.

Trailer slayed me! Genuinely got thrills watching it, loved the Dany voiceover, recounting all the houses in contention. Stannis looked menacing, also love hearing Roose speak.

Lots of great stuff from this trailer. I tried to piece together new info we have learned from this by storyline:

Jon: mostly just confirmation of what we already knew. You can’t see anyone besides Tormund accompanying him to Hardhome but that doesn’t mean there won’t be more known characters there. Looks like he’s talking to Olly at CB when he gives the “Winter is coming” speech.

Stannis: Quick shot of him mounted up and looking like he’s ready to march on Winterfell. Also a shot of Mel looking worriedly at something at CB and the strange shot of a distraught Selyse on the ground which could be something to do with Shireen or maybe something entirely different.

Winterfell: Sansa’s there in the crypts and we also see a Vale contingent riding into Winterfell courtyard to be received by the Boltons. Quick shot of Ramsay nuzzling with Myranda who doesn’t seem to be a fan of the attention.

Brienne/Pod: Extra shot of them sparring in the Riverlands woods with random Vale knights which is a continuation of them being chased in 1st trailer. Then a shot of her bringing her sword down on something outside the Riverlands Inn we’ve also seen in 1st trailer (chopping block or well?) And finally, the most intriguing shot is her and Pod somewhere in the middle of the snow (ie the North). No idea why she would be going there but that would appear to shut down speculation of her running into the BwB I would think. Perhaps she pursues Sansa to Winterfell in order to save her or maybe they decide to go the Wall. Who knows?

King’s Landing: Cersei and the High Sparrow presiding over a hearing with Olyvar/Loras where Loras doesn’t appear happy with the result. This is probably Cersei’s way of getting out of her marriage pact and a union she makes with the Faith. Loras getting arrested for being gay falls in line with the Faith Militant MO. Also we get the scene where Tommen presumably tries to get Cersei released from the FM and is rejected. Lots more shots of Margaery, Cersei, the High Sparrow etc but no more new info.

Dorne: Barely any Dorne stuff, just more extended scene of Bronn fighting when he and Jaime first get there.

Tyrion: Could be fancy editing but it sure looks like he gets a glimpse of Drogon in the mist while he’s on a boat, echoing the S5 poster. Also, the scene where the potential pit fighters audition for the slavers (this must be where Mr.Eko and Yezzan run the auction) gets a lot more screentime and you can see in a shot that Dany’s in the background watching the proceedings so it’s possible it’s her and not Hizdahr who purchase Tyrion at this point. And we get a great shot of the bridge at Volantis, can’t forget that.

Dany: Tons of Harpy stuff and lots of Daario. No clues as to what happens to Barristan later in the season. Her meeting with Drogon could also be a quick meet cute before Daznak or that could be him dropping her off at the Pyramids (instead of the Dothraki Sea) after Daznak. Also have no idea who the brunette girl is encircled by Essos slaves/peasants with their hands outstretched, stumped on that one.

I mean I think it’s safe to assume that’s the Winterfell crypts but I guess it’s possible it’s not. If she goes up there as Alayne then it makes more sense but I hope they let the fArya story drop or just have Myranda as her only change her to being unsmpathetic ( no chance Theon would save someone who helped torture him and has lied to him so much if he wouldn’t even trust his own sister!) . It could possibly work if she goes up incognito ( although I’m still struggling to see why she’s being put in harms way like that) and perhaps someone finds out (perhaps Myranda?). Theon (Sansa is one of the few characters left that can remind him of who he used to be) has to kill that person to keep her identity safe and perhaps escape with her. I dunno, it’s still pretty messy for me. Sansa replacing fArya would make little sense for me. Ramsay who is now the heir to the north could marry Myranda as the wedding itself is pretty much a plot device to gather characters in a certain place. Hmmm we shall see. On the plus side, good to see Jamie getting stuck in on the combat side of things. For perhaps the greatest living swordsman in the books to have been underrepresented as such in the show has always irked me! The subtle dyslexia conversation about him between Tywin and Arya seems to be bearing fruit!

More Ramsay S&M on the horizon! Ramsay’s sadistic bedwarmer Myranda could prove dangerous if Sansa’s in Winterfell.

That’s an amazing trailer. And I dare say the person who posted on this very site the stuff about Hardhome looks to be telling the truth, based on this trailer. Wow. That’s going to be a really cool scene.

I need to watch this a few more (hundred) times, but it’s a really cool trailer! At least there’s

evidence of Sansa in Winterfell, too —those are definitely the crypts of Winterfell. Now, I only hope she’s not there instead of Jayne Poole but as part of a Vale delegation, substituting some of the Northern lords in terms of the plot.

The first CGI shot of King’s Landing was wonky as shit, though, especially compared to last years’. Hope they tighten it up.

BTW, that is definitely Drogon. In stark contrast to previous seasons, they haven’t got fewer scenes with the dragons than the books, but more. So, Drogon visits him at night? Presumably not long before the “big event.”

Here’s my problem with Daenerys. They’ve totally destroyed her arc. When she’s in Slaver’s Bay, she’s torn apart between two identities: The Mother of Dragons and Mhysa. The ‘Mother of Dragons’ identity is violent, barbaric, a true Targaryen; on the other hand, her ‘Mhysa’ identity is forgiving, kind and caring. She chooses Mhysa and frees all the slaves, she tries to protect them, to end violence, but sometimes her ‘Mother of Dragons’ identity takes over her, like when she kills all the masters. When she’s in the Dothraki Sea after Daznak’s Pit, she realizes she needs to go home, back to Westeros, and adopts her ‘Mother of Dragons’ identity to the fullest. How can the show’s Daenerys have this revelation if in the past two seasons all she talks about is Westeros?!

Did the high Septon say ‘we serve the Gods‘ as in plural? Surely this puritan gentleman of all people should know of ‘The Seven who are one’ .

I would guess Olly. The person has lighter hair, and judging by the angles, appears to be shorter than Kit. Plus I have my doubts that Jon would be lecturing Maester Aemon in dealing with Wildlings.

Overall? This trailer just kills it. It’s completely insane, including a hell of a lot of blood. And I’m finding myself totally flummoxed on some of the story lines, which makes it even more awesome.

I can’t tell for sure but it looks like Myranda is not enjoying Ramsay’s ‘attentions’ so perhaps she will be a little more fleshed out this season and not just Ramsay’s female counterpart in all dreadful things. The character has demonstrated she is a sadist so there’s that… but the actress Charlotte Hope could be quite good if they actually gave her something to do. I want to know if Myranda thinks Ramsay truly loves her or if she goes along with his whims as a means of survival.

I liked how so many people said that the Sansa in Winterfell thing wasn’t going to happen and that it was ludicrous to even suggest it. And yet here we are with a freakin’ trailer with her down in the crypts. Hehe…

On the trailer itself though, I cannot do anything but clap. This is, hands down the best Game of Thrones trailer so far. There’s so much exciting stuff in this trailer. And also, the scale seems to be enormous this season! Just that shot of Drogon flying above Tyrion for instance. That was insane! I’m so absurdly excited about what promises to be the best season yet, that I think I’m going a little crazy over here!

Wow don’t get me wrong, That storyline in the last book was probably one of my favorites, I just think the change they’ve made will make more impact in both Sansa and Theon’s storylines, because they know each very well so it makes it way more emotional, and since they completly erased the Jeyne poole character out of the series it makes even more sense, otherwise it would just be another girl no one cares about being tormented by Ramsay. But I still I think she will be able to take some revenge by doing the biding of our “lord too fat to sit on a horse” so if I had to guess, It will half torment half satisfaction, yes because I also do not believe she will be able to control Ramsay anytime.

Totally agree. Game of Thrones has released some truly great trailers before (“Seven Devils” comes to mind, although that one was elevated by the music). But based purely on visual flair and the thrill that I felt as I was watching it, I legitimately think that this particular trailer may be the best one that they’ve ever done. The potential for this season is so high it’s off the charts entirely. Here there be dragons.

Did you miss the part last season when she chains up the dragons, re-decides to not kill the Yunkai masters, from the trailer telling Daario that she isnt a butcher when he no doubt encourages her to purge the masters and Harpy, clearly she is going to be grappling with the type of leader she wants to become, the peacemaker or all fire and blood on everyone. The show has actually made this inner dilemma quite obvious, including Barristans and Jorahs advice to her last season.

Actually, there is brief a shot in the trailer where there’s a few boats rowing towards Hardhome. If you pause in that shot, you can quite clearly see both Edd and Sam behind Jon and Tormund.

I like that. It could be a cool way to wrap together certain themes, if not actual scenes, from the source material.

The most interesting thing would be that it would require Reek making a choice to not tell the Boltons who she is, which would sort of parallel decisions he makes in the books… reclaiming his Theon-ness and whatever.

You know what also would have been cool is actually dramatizing storylines that actually occur in the actual books, but I digress…

Good catch. The Hardhome production stills previously released seemed to indicate they’d be there so not a huge shocker but nice to get a quick glance at them.

What we can see of the Volantene architecture is a very interesting choice. Most depictions are way more inspired by South Asian architecture. This looks… European Gothic, at least partially, which I didn’t expect at all.

Brienne is in the North and where is Pod and who cares about all the rest in comparison!

There’s pretty much three types of figurines on Stannis’ battle table. Bolton ones, ones I don’t recognize … and ones, that kinda remind me of LF’s mockingbird, albeit a bit stretched. (Yea, I pretty much I agree with the person, who said (not sure if here) that LF and Sansa will take on Manderly’s role … Not sure how will Theon factor into that, tho.)

Those are Vale men riding into Winterfell (at least so it seems). Sansa is in Winterfell too, so that’s my best guess.

From what we’ve seen this season is going to be incredibly action-packed. Just hoping and praying that Theon’s leap of faith is kept in some form.

Regarding a potential stannis battle scene, the only clue we’ve had is a bloody-faced Stephen dillane in the pledge your allegiance vid, I think it will be off-screen.

I think Selyse is either watching certain events leading up to FtW or the FtW act itself. Perhaps Shireen is involved in a critical event (a mutiny victim?) that happens as Jon returns from Hardhome? Who is the woman at 01:22? It’s not a main actor, is it? Everyone seems to be… worshipping her? Whatever it is, it takes place at the Long Bridge of Volantis. Red robes… a red priestess maybe?

There seems to be a trial with the High Sparrow arguing against a very scruffy Loras, with Olyvar present as a witness (as many guessed), and Marg, Tommen, Olenna and Cersei present.

That trailer was incredible. Epicness dial turned up to 11/10.

At this rate we’ll have only 5 storylines at the end of the season. Even season 1 had more.

There’s not even any snow in Winterfell at this point in the show. I hardly think you’re going to see a blizzard-covered Riverlands this season. Brienne and Pod have to be pretty far North to be that engulfed in snow.

Also, with LF in King’s Landing and Sansa in Winterfell, the Vale will have no action outside of the introductory run-in between Brienne and Sansa in E1/E2 (as should be the case).

It looks like i was right. That Sansa will go to winterfell with a vale contingent and maybe she will bring Ramsay Farya. She will most likely take on manderly’s role. I also hope drogon gets a lot bigger by the daznak scene because its supposed to be shocking how much hes grown.

I like how they just used a simple soundtrack for this one. As much as I love the “edgy alternative female singer” thing, it was kind of getting old. This makes it feel a lot more cinematic.
