How do i borrar messages?

I borrar the messages in my bandeja de entrada becouse i don't like backlog. But the messages I borrar go into the trash and it's not deleting them, they just stay there and it's getting bigger. Is they a way to borrar the messages compltely o is there a waiting peroid then there deleted, like hotmail?
