Devoted EXO-L reveals that EXO helped her beat depression

On the May 30 edition of SBS\'s \'Same Bed, Different Dreams,\' a devoted EXO-L shared how she was able to get through her depression because of EXO.

The EXO fan revealed that her mother would often scold her for being too focused on celebrities. The program then showed a clip of the mother and daughter bitterly screaming at one another because of the daughter\'s obsession for EXO. The daughter finally revealed that the reason why she became obsessed with EXO, and especially Chanyeol, was because they were the ones to help her get through depression. 

The daughter explained on the show, "When I was in sixth grade, I was chosen as the school president. And at the time, mischievous boys would curse at me and say, \'She definitely bought her votes,\' \'She\'s worse than a politician.\' I was depressed since then. My older sister would get sick often when she was in middle school so I was alone at home a lot of the times."

"My mom couldn\'t be reached, my dad would tell me that he\'s busy, and my older sister was sick, so I had no one to talk to. I was really depressed. One day, while I was drawing by myself, I overheard some kids talking about EXO. I thought that if I knew more about EXO, I would be able to make friends and no longer be alone so I listened to a lot of EXO songs. They became someone who I can depend on. (Because of EXO) 95% of all my depressing thoughts are gone. It\'s not that I\'m pretending to be bright, but I think EXO changed my personality." 

The daughter also revealed that she would cause self-inflicted injuries due to her depression. However, after discovering EXO, the daughter revealed that she is no longer depressed and even has a dream of becoming a graphic designer.

Seeing that the daughter was the happiest when she was looking up news about EXO\'s Chanyeol, the studio prepared a special surprise gift for the daughter by inviting Chanyeol to the show. 

Once Chanyeol stepped onto the set, the studio turned into chaos as the audience members, the daughter, and even the daughter\'s mother bursted into tears.

Yoo Jae Suk then said, "When Chanyeol appeared, the studio was filled with an ocean of tears." Chanyeol then gave a handshake and a hug to the daughter who expressed her love for the idol. Chanyeol made sure to thank her for all the support that she is giving EXO. He suggested, "I hope that you continue to draw well and study hard like your mom is telling you to."

Actually I observed that for many fans kpop is like that.

aaw poor girl :( that was really mean of those other students but i know that feeling of just having to find something to brighten up your day, i go to a really intense science, tech, engineering, and math high school (the "male-dominated fields") and EXO helps brighten up my day after getting frustrated over a comp sci code that doesnt work or a research paper that is all over the place 

Because of kpop (and really mostly EXO) I found out that I really enjoy dancing, so soon I will start learning dancing, I especially want to dance Overdose and Call Me Baby.

This kind of thing gives me a hobbit, which prevents me from being insecure about myself because I do something I enjoy.

I actually learned Overdose and Call Me Baby, but I never had a dance class so I look like and idiot lol (:

Ive never been a happy person my entire life because of family issues. Last year something happened and caused me to have depression. I found out about Exo through my friends. They really helped me overcome my depression. When you are at the edge of a hill and finds no meaning in living, you need something that pulls you back. That is EXO for me. Currently I became a happier person and im working on fixing my life. I\'m very thankful and really glad they helped others as well. 

Actually, I was just talking about this to my friend earlier. I told her that good thing I\'m liking Kpop. If I don\'t have kpop in my life, I would have been in depression right now with the stress that I\'m facing from work. Everything went ok everytime I read about them, my mood change in an instant. Some people needs comfort & outlet to make their lives feels better, & that\'s the business strategies of this companies. Its a give & take situation.

EXO helped me so much too, they brought a lot of happiness into my life when I was having hardships. I felt like I had something to look forward to. I will loyally support these 12 guys whether they are together or not, in return for helping me.

People kept questioning me "Why Kpop?", "What\'s so special about chinese One Direction copies", "You don\'t even understand what they\'re saying", "They can\'t even pronounce simple words in English" and many, many more. I\'m going through some tough times right now and there were many situations when though about giving up-literally, like I mean death. When it all started Kpop was to me only a music genre. Now it\'s part of life. It tought me how to be proud of myself, look in the mirror and say "hey pretty" or just to be more confident and keep my head held high. At the top of the list of Kpop bands, that actually changed my life, EXO stands proudly. It\'s just something special about them that made me believe in myself once more.

Kpop made me find my way through life. Even though I\'m still young, I know what I want to do in future and I know that miracles only happen ones - Kpop was one to me.

If I had a chance, I would totally say big "Thank you" to EXO. In some way, I owe them my life.

People say that getting back to life from death is impossible. But I think I just did that.

To every person that has got sort of depression: You\'re not alone. Remember that every one of us is a special snowflake that has to live it\'s life to be happy. Be the best version of yourself. If you feel alone then remind yourself that not everything is what it seems. Remind yourself that it\'s truly ok to be not perfect. No one is.

Keep your head held high, and remember: FIGHTING!!!

I can relate :D when i was 13 i found DBSK... Those five saved my life. I had extreme depressiomn back then and then i changed... I was happier.... Somehow. Espacially jaejoongs songs gave me "energy" somehow... Itsbhard tonunderstand and iut seems childish but i actually heard of many people who stopped having suicide thoughts thanks to a kpop band...

I\'m happy that DBSK helped you overcome depression and suicidal thoughts just like they helped me. No one really understands when you try to explain it, but a band\'s music really can change someone\'s life.

same thing here. I came to the US and got into a very difficult to study at school and my English as not that good so I couldnt make friends and was very depressed and homesick. then Jaejoon and DBSK happened, then SuJu, 2pm, MBLAQ, SHINee, and now EXO and VIXX. I am a noona fan and I grew up and do not get depressed over the same things because I belong here no and have a job and friends, but there are still hard things in life and every time k-pop saves me. and one time when my mom was arguing with me on Skype how I need to "stop being immature and spending time on little korean boys with weird hair and need to start thinking of my own family", I burst into tears and told her how I was severely depressed and now I would have never graduated college without k-pop and might have not even been a part of this world anymore. ever since then she stopped making fun of my k-pop love and realized that she wasnt right attacking me over something she wasnt familiar with. and it is so heartwarming to see how many kids k-pop saved. no matter the scandals idols are going through lately, no matter the real personalities they have off-stage, what we see on the screen is enough for us to be forever grateful to them for changing our lives. thank you for existing, all of the people who make k-pop happen!

Everybody have their own interest. Some people are into football/sports, dramas, cooking, drawing. And we just happen to be into kpop. I never judge them and their obsession. I dont get why would they judge me

A lot of non-kpoppers don\'t know why we love kpop. Even if we don\'t speak Korean, there\'s a lot more to kpop than the language barrier. For me, SUJU was the one who kept me from me all sad and mopy 6 years ago, their music was what kept me happy and their variety/reality shows kept me laughing like no other and made me forget all my worries and pains. ^_^ Not only does kpop help with my happiness, it also helped me connect with people who share the same interest. I\'m someone who is hard to approach because I stopped being the outgoing girl I use to be due to the bullying & fake friends i dealt with all my life; for someone to have interest in kpop - i can totally talk to them all day about it without worrying so much. xD Although, my "depression" didn\'t go as far as cutting but only thoughts of suicide, kpop - especially for me it\'s SUJU, Infinite, B.A.P, and BTS - helped me to forget those thoughts with the upbeat music - even the ballads helped a lot because I just love listening to the melody of it. Their personalities & variety/reality shows kept me a live as well. xD So, to those who say it was stupid of her to rely on EXO to help with her depression, it isn\'t. KPOP is special, MUSIC in GENERAL is a treatment in my opinion. I love listening to music, I call music "my medicine" rather than the actual pills I have to take for the rest of my life. #kpopislife ♥

Don\'t judge her because \'kpop is just for entertainment\'. Its something we all spend time on, that\'s what we like to do, that\'s what makes us happy. God knows how many times I listened to SHINee when I was depressed, sad or crying.

I agree...listening to SHINee always brightens my day, I understand her. But obsession is a bit extreme. Everything should have limits!

seriously these fans needs a life with friends having issue with family? then talk it out at the dinner table... EXO is just here to sing and entertain and make cash for SME. ;)

You don\'t really understand since you seems not a dedicated fan. Some people needs outlet to release stress & that happens to be liking EXO, no matter how SM is gaining money out of this. Its a give & take situation, they help people (or have them obsessed with their artists), they gain money which is the purpose of this business.

Shes the same as me. In 2008 as i met shinee and suju in youtube, i was in deep depression and had many scary suicide and leaving the house thoughts. But shinees songs helped me smile while i cried. Nobody understands how much shinee means to me. Even my kpop friends dont understand my addiction to shinee. Its not addiction but uts LOVE.

Guuurl i totally feel you...the same thing happened to me when i discovered kpop and just  when i thought it couldn\'t get any better - EXO happened, the same Chanyeol happened, BTS happened. Depression should not be taken as a joke and mine was in a pretty bad stage at that time...so even now i\'m really thankful for discovering kpop. It\'s really hard to explain to a stranger  ( or  to my parents ) what it is exactly because some of them just look at the "flashy clothes/ weird hairstyles/strange lyrics " and think  that there\'s nothing more to be seen other than that. I usually laugh and  kinda feel bad for them cause they don\'t know what they\'re missing out.

wowwww exo are not just idols thier also doctors and foods they can be everything love them and i am happy she got over her depression ❤️
