Big wins at the People\'s Choice awards for Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Robert Downey Jr and Jennifer Lawrence

Ed Sheeran was honoured twice at the People\'s Choice awards, being voted Favorite Male Artist and his album X being named Favourite Album. Taylor Swift was awarded Favourite Female Artist.

Sheeran beat a shortlist that included Pharrell Williams, John Legend, country singer Blake Shelton and the UK\'s Sam Smith.

The 40th People\'s Choice awards show was hosted by Anna Faris and Allison Janney and the awards, created by Bob Stivers in 1975, are voted for by the public in an online poll.

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr and Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence were the main film winners. Downey Jr. won both favourite movie actor and favourite dramatic movie actor, while Lawrence took acting prizes for both general and action films. The Big Bang Theory won the coveted top TV show, beating The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones.

The Simpsons, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in December 2014, won Favourite Animated TV show.
