Now, what I mean por campaigns is that in the UK (and I’m sure in America and other countries too) there's a lot of leaflets, adverts and campaigns to try and get más people to ride bikes to work and school;
1)because Britain is the third unhealthiest nation
2)to cut down on car emissions
which don't get me wrong I understand the need to try and fix both of these problems, however rather than wasting money on these campaigns, if they spent a bit más on making Britain a más 'bike friendly' place, then they'd see a much larger difference.
Some of tu may ask how can a nation be bike unfriendly? Okay here's what I would have to go though to get simply from my house to the hospital
Once I have come though all the atrocious pot hole filled, narrow roads to get the main road, I have to wait half an hora at a junction as apparently most people think 'give way' signs must not apply to bikes. Once I have made it on to the main road I have to ride in the gutter o sometimes on the pavement due to the amount of cars that don't appear to be able to drive straight in a morning.
siguiente stop, the little village of Holmfirth which main road has lots of shops but is very narrow, so I have to use some serious swerving skills to avoid being smacked down por open doors from the badly parked delivery vans and comprar owner cars, whilst being laughed at por school kids.
Finally after this, I am already exhausted from all the extra effort at this point but I’m glad to reach the only bike lane in my one and a half hora journey, only to find that as there is no reinforcement in the 'only bikes in the bike lane' rule, so cars think it is okay to drive in it anyway.
Once I reach the train station, I can sigh in relieve at the thought of being able to sit down, only to find I actually have to stand up holding my bike whilst several other squashed train passenger look at me like I was Satan himself for taking up precious el espacio with my bike.
After being practically shoved off the train at my stop I fearfully try to get though the overly packed roads of Leeds centre and when I get to the hospital I find there is no where to put my bike so I chain it up to some railings only to find that when i get back several fags have been put out on my seat.
Yay for me I can go inicial now, sadly I have to bike it back.
For the clear reason stated above this is why not so many Britain’s do not ride bikes, the government needs to;
-have más bike lanes
-reinforce the rules of these bike lanes
-reinforce road rules in general
-sort out some of the country roads
-have places to put your bike on public transport (i know other countries particularly in the Netherlands that have compartments o containers)
-make sure all school, hospitals and public facilities have bike sheds of some form
If the government would at least start addressing these issues it could make a huge difference to those who make a effort to ride their bikes and to those who don't because of the reasons stated above, rather than wasting thousands of tax payer’s money on leaflets and advert about 'why it's fun to ride a bike'!
