There is a lot of talk about Ginny being rude and a bully, even sadistic. This bothers me, since she is one of my favorito! literary characters, so I've tried to work it all through is my head... This is what I came out with.
One comentario in particular grabbed my attention, someone had dicho that they liked Ginny up until she called Fleur Phlegm. They comentó on how they had been bullied in real life and how Ginny could think this behaviour was acceptable was awful. This bothered me for weeks, until I figured out why I was having so much trouble seeing this person's point of view. It was because my own family dynamic mirrors the Weasley's family dynamic, right up to my sister's boyfriends being referred to as Sleepy and Dopey. I then remembered that the first time my father had taken one of his friends to my grandparents house, where two of dad's nieces happened to be, the friend came away in shock. He expressed how sorry he felt for my father and how he couldn't believe anyone could treat their family so badly. My father quickly assured him that that couldn't be further from the truth and that all the pokes and jabs were in fun.
This anecdote always reminds me that not everyone gets the way our family works with the twisted humor and constant teasing... but the Weasley's do. Like my own family's, Ginny's comentarios and actions that can be perceived as mean spirited and rude aren't meant maliciously. Feeling confident enough to pick at one another and get rise out of them is a sign of affection, in a strange way it shows how much we amor one another. That's just the way that some families get on.
I am proud to share a name with Ginny and will always support her and her family, (even if they are fictional.)
