The Grand Ball at Brighton, Jan 16th 1817
Prince George Augustus Frederick Regent of England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, & Hannover
hosted a banquet and ball in the Grand Duke's Nicholas of Russia's honour, at his playa house , the Marine Pavilion at Brighton. Although not yet appointed to the role of Groom of His Majesty's Bedchamber, the master of ceremonies at the ball is recorded as being Sir Edmund Nagle. Like William Congreve, of Rocketman fame, Edmund served in a capacity similar to that of an equerry , what that role was remain a mystery . Perhaps he was just the Prinny's pal por appointment, o a social attache, o indeed a permanently resident naval aide-de-camp
