With the release of 'The DUFF (Now Playing) we decided to take a look back at the best characters from our favorito! high school movies. (Because we always need an excuse to go on an epic nostalgia bender.) Considering Mae Whitman's 'DUFF' character Bianca is pretty much poised to become the siguiente female teen comedy herione, we're reminiscing about our other fave characters from teen comedies past. Enjoy!
1) Bender, 'The Breakfast Club'
While all five members of 'The Breakfast Club' could've made this lista -- the athlete, the brain, the criminal, the princess and the basket case -- we opted to go with Judd Nelson's bad boy, John Bender. While Bender was sexy and dangerous on the surface, one of the best things about the character -- and 'The Breakfast Club' as a whole -- was the fact that it broke down all stereotypes to examine what was underneath. Bender was so much más than just a "criminal," and part of the joy in the movie is to watch his backstory unfold.
2) Regina George, 'Mean Girls'
Is there any other high school "mean girl" más deliciously evil than Regina George? Rachel McAdams embodied every single -- dare we say it? -- "fetch" characteristic to make a ridiculously hilarious caricature of the quintessential queen bee. And she did so flawlessly, becoming the "incarnation of pure evil" with blond hair, a Burn Book and one unforgettable "Boo, tu whore."
3) Ferris Bueller, 'Ferris Bueller's día Off'
Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) schemed his way into playing hooky, and in doing so, cemented a place in our hearts forever. As Bueller (to be read in that epic Ben Stein monotone), Broderick broke the fourth muro más times than we could count and made skipping school and being chased por a crazed principal totally worth it.
4) Laney Boggs, 'She's All That'
While Rachael Leigh Cook's Laney Boggs started out as just a bet between the Freddie Prinze Jr. and Paul Walker, the actress instilled the bespectacled, paint-splattered character with a corazón of oro and self-confidence like a boss. Like Bender in 'The Breakfast Club,' Laney Boggs was so much más than what meets the eye -- and fortunately for us, FPJ ultimately realized it. And we're crazy grateful for that, because RLC slow dancing to Six Pence None the Richer's 'Kiss Me' with FPJ is one of our favorito! '90s teen movie moments.
5) Kat Stratford, '10 Things I Hate About You'
As if anyone but Julia Stiles and her classic, Shakespearian training could pull off the character of wavy-haired Kat in '10 Things.' While it was her completely sarcastic, "I-don't-give-a…" attitude that first made us amor the badass character, it was Stiles' emotionally-charged '10 Things' poem at the end of the movie that really brought the character home. So many feels.
6) Cher Horowitz, 'Clueless'
Alicia Silverstone's Cher Horowitz may have been a rich ditz from Beverly Hills, but she was a kind-hearted rich ditz. Fashion-obsessed and eager to help out her pals (remember Tai's makeover?), Cher basically embodied everything we loved so much about the mall-centric culture of the '90s, crazy amazing rotating closet and all. As if!
7) Romy & Michele, 'Romy & Michele's High School Reunion'
Okay, Mira Sorvino's Romy and Lisa Kudrow's Michele are two different characters, but there's no denying that they're pretty much a match set. How could we possibly include one without the other? While the film doesn't actually take place when the characters are in high school, it's all about the girls gearing up for their highly anticipated high school reunion and their high-powered jobs as the inventors of Post-Its and all. And really, what would our lives be without a slow-dance to Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time'?

She's crazy confident and totally owns her DUFF label, turning the "Designated Ugly Fat Friend" stereotype on its head and rocking it like only she can.
