features a handful of stellar collaborators like Bruno Mars, Danger Mouse, and Max Martin, but one artist who won’t appear in the credits is Damon Albarn. The Blur frontman and Adele had tried to work together on a track, but both say the project went sour.
, but that nothing came of their time together. “The thing is, she’s very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be, she’s still so young,” he said.
, Adele is telling her side of the story. “It ended up being one of those ‘don’t meet your idol’ moments,” she said. “And the saddest thing was that I was such a big Blur fan growing up. But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him. None of it was right. None of it suited my record.”
As for Albarn’s comments that Adele is “insecure,” the singer, now 27, said it was the opposite. “I’m the least-insecure person I know,” Adele said. “I was asking his opinion about my fears, about coming back with a child involved — because he has a child — and then he calls me insecure?”
is due out Nov. 20 and features its first single, “Hello,” co-written with Greg Kurstin. “She didn’t want to just go through and write a pop song with any particular formula,” he told EW in a recent interview. “We talked about Tom Waits, and different storytellers like that. I think that was the idea, that we wanted to do something that was very honest about where she was at right now, and she wanted to do something that was real and believable.”
