fanfly picked Some time after the final movie has been released.:
The release of each movie sequel will rekindle interest in the series, so it stands to reason that it's popularity will only dim after the release of the final movie.

Not for me anyway. If I love something, then I love it - I'm not someone who's obsessed one minute and denies all knowledge of it the next. So THG isn't just a 'fad' to me.. but if you're talking in general, to some people it'll most likely be after the last movie.

I think for everyone, there are some people who just jump on the fad bandwagon, and some people who are real fans.
For instance, another "fad"-Harry Potter-there are still tons of fans of that, and I think it will always be popular. Just because the last movie is out doesn't mean people stop liking it.

I think it's the same with the Hunger Games and a lot of other things. Some people may just "get over it:" in a few years, but I think there will always be lots of true fans who have and will always love THG no matter what, and I think that maybe the buzz will quiet down a bit after the last movie, but there will always be new people reading books, and there will always be people who will love the series forever.

If all that makes sense....

I loved it before it got popular, and I'll love it after. @KateKicksAss I agree with everything you said.

Popularity tends to die down when something's over. Harry Potter is still going strong after its end, and I have a feeling Twilight will keep going for a while, too. I think it depends how devoted the fans are. Like with Star Wars/Star Trek. They're over and still have a massive fanbase. I liked The Hunger Games when everyone didn't like them, you know? It's like since the movie came out, all these "fake fans" are showing who have no earthly idea what goes on in the books and just want to stick with the movies. That is annoying. And it's getting quite annoying to see that burning mockingjay plastered everywhere.

The mockingjay was never on fire---Katniss and Peeta were. But I don't count on these fandoms lasting to the 22nd century. By then, there will be a new series of books with legions of fans and they will be turned into movies. But people will, I expect, who are older will say, "Yeah that's the Harry Potter/Hunger Games/Twilight of this century . . . " But oh well. I think everyone's starting to like The Hunger Games just 'cause it's everywhere and has such good reviews. It will die down. The movie was okay, but I think to be a "true" or "die-hard" or "original" fan you'd have to have read the books first.

Nice question, thanks for posting!

OK, here's my response : Who cares if some 'fans' stick to the movie and have no idea what's going on in the books? The books are one thing, the movies - another. I've never watched Hunger Games movie, and probably, won't watch Catching Fire either. Not that I have something against Jennifer, Josh or Liam. Of course not, but I always prefer the books, that's the point. Just because some people will stop talking about these series doesn't mean kids won't love them.
Take Lord of the Rings for example : By the time the trilogy was written, Fantasy genre was something new. It was a phenomenon. Everyone talked about it! Then Peter Jackson made the movies, which received mixed reviews. Some began to speculate that they would fade the popularity of the original books. But it didn't happen! There are billions of true LOTR fans, even today!!
Same with Harry Potter. Despite all of the excitement being over and Joanne working on another books, folks still read her story about a Boy Who Lived! Movies didn't change their love for it!

So, I don't care if Hunger Games will 'die out'. It's NOT a mere fad. Amazon or Rotten Tomatoes won't in the slightest bit waver my dedication for these books. I'm not one of those who are obsessed with something one minute and forget it the next one. No matter what, the Girl on Fire, the Boy with Bread will stay forever in my heart!!!!!!
Besides, there will always be new people who will read about and love their epic journey in the future!
