The Kids Don’t Know
Chapter 9
This. Means. War.
I was so excited for today! It’s the school play auditions! I amor to act so much! This is the only thing Courtney likes about me. Oh and por the way, after the whole Trent thing, I cut my hair to shoulder length. I hopped down the stairs for school. I was wearing a turquoise T-shirt with a matching skirt, a sideways belt, some arm guante things, and black converse boots. But after saying goodbye to my dad, (It’s his week!) I opened the door to see an aceituna, oliva colored monovolumen, minivan parked in the calle really close to my house. Trent drives an aceituna, oliva minivan. He got his cast off last week, but I didn’t think about it. I wouldn’t think about it. I still had 3 weeks hace glued to my brain. I decided to tell Genn when I got to school. “Hey, Dominic.” I dicho when I got to the bus stop. “Elle, did tu see the van?” He asked me. My response to that was me stomping hard on his foot. A few minutos later the bus pulled up, and I got on. I was talking to Hanalei when a thought came into my head. “Hanalei, do your parents act weird around you? Like they have a secret?” I asked. She sort of tensed up, like “Yes but I don’t want to talk about it”.
“Who ever the heck this ‘Trent’ is, he better watch his back!” Genn yelled after I told her what happened. It’s so sweet how Genn knows me so well. “Yeah, well, tu don’t know what he’s capable of. My dad’s a con, and he overpowered him.” Genn and LeShequa knew my dads past, but nobody else knew. So I was horrified when people in the hall started randomly yelling, “Convict!” in the hall. I saw my brother’s green t-shirt, and ran up to him. “Donnie! Did tu tell somebody about dad?” I asked. He looked at me like I just said, “Is there a moose in the school?”. “What do I have to gain from telling people?” He asked. At that point I knew he didn’t tell so I sent Genn a quick text.
Hey! Did tu tell anybody about my dad!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
In a matter of seconds, I heard Genn call out my name. “Elle? Oh hi! The principle wants to talk to you.” I instantly walked down to his office, where Dad and Gwen and… Trent were waiting. “Elle, Trent here says he is your real father. True?” Mr. McLean asked. “No!” Me, Mom, and Dad and I shouted. “Are tu willing to have a blood test?” Trent asked. He was sort of daring me to say yes. So I did.
Two days later I was sitting in the hospital with my brother, waiting for the nurse to stick a needle in my arm. “Hey, Ell, got any chocolate?” Donnie asked. We were both chocoholics. “What? Oh yeah.” I pulled slightly melted paloma chocolate and handed it to my brother. I got one too, and we popped them into our mouths. “Yum.” I said. Dominic nodded as the nurse called his name. “Good luck!” I said. So in a nutshell, Trent and Dominic and I have to get our blood drawn. They are going to compare the blood to see if Trent really is my father. Wrong! Anyway, when the nurse called out my name, well technically she called me ‘Evelyn’ but in any case, I was freaking out. I hate needles. A lot. But all the nurse did at first was drill me with questions. (I am very lazy so I’ll make it so tu can tell who’s speaking)

Nurse: Have tu had surgery?
Me: No
Nurse: Ok. What about meat? Have tu had that within the last 24 hours?
Me: No. I had a vegan meal last night, and I didn’t eat any meat for lunch.

After about two dozen preguntas and a needle in my arm, we left the hospital. “I don’t know Dominic, Trent is persistent. He’d probably do anything to hurt mom.” I dicho to Dominic. “Well, he can’t do anything to us. We aren’t his kids. Get that through your thick skull, Ell.” Dominic said. He always knows when I’m feeling down. I guess it’s a twin thing. “Elle! Gwen is here!” I heard Court yell. “Coming, Princess!” I yelled back. She growled and I laughed.
When I got back inicial Two things were out of place: #1 Trent is there; and #2 There is a folder on the coffee mesa, tabla that says, “Custody Debate: Danni Gray, Evelyn/ Oscar Gray, Dominic”
